On tonight’s The Orville Season 1 Episode 2 “Command Performance,” as per the FOX synopsis, “When Ed (Seth MacFarlane) and Kelly (Adrianne Palicki) are tricked by a hologram of a ship in distress and find themselves prisoners in a replica of their former home, Alara must step up in her first command of the Orville and attempt a heroic rescue. Meanwhile, Bortus and Klyden receive some happy, yet unexpected news.”

Ed is in his office. Bortis comes in. He needs to take a leave of absence. He is going to lay an egg. Ed wants to know all about and how long it takes. Bortis answers, 21 days.
Ed arrives at the helm of the ship to see Gordon and the others. He tells them about Bortis. They all get a report that another ship is in trouble. The captain from that ship calls them. Ed’s parents are on board. They speak via video. Ed’s mom wants to know how his stomach is. Ed is mortified. Ed’s mom asks Kelly about their relationship and her infidelity. Things get uncomfortable. Ed asks Kelly if she wants to go see his parents. They leave the ship. During transport they disappear. Gordon and the others can’t find them. Meanwhile, Ed and Kelly appear on a ship.
Alara runs to see Bortis to get his help. He tells her he cannot leave his egg. She is on command. She leaves and takes a shot of tequila and then throws up. She reports back to the helm. Gordon has a plan. She tells him good job. She commands them to lock on to the buoy in space so they can check it for clues. They pull it into the bay. Explosions occur. The ship shakes. She leaves to see what happened. There was damage but nothing they can’t fix. Alara gets upset and pulls the doctor aside. She can’t do this. The doctor tells her she has to.
Ed wakes up next to Kelly in a living room looking over a city. It is their old apartment in New York City.
Kerry asks Ed if they have been sent back in time after he finds a stuffed animal he has in his office in present time. They try to leave the apartment but they can’t get out.
Isaac thinks he has something. He thinks Ed and Kelly may have been molecularly transported. Meanwhile, Ed and Kelly get comfortable in their old clothes, eating cake and drinking. They start reminiscing and laughing about old times.
The admiral radios Alara and tells her that she needs to report back to earth. She should not look for Ed and Kelly. They are gone for good.
Ed wakes up on the couch. People are looking at him through glass. Kelly comes out of the bedroom. They are in a zoo! They talk to an alien in an exhibit across from them. They were all kidnapped. The alien tells them that there is now way out.
Back at the ship, the repairs have been completed. Alara tells them all they are headed back to earth. They all object. She commands them to carry out the order. Alara is upset. She visits the doctor for advice. She heads to the cafeteria. She takes a double shot of tequila and then sits with her crew. They ask to speak freely. She tells them it is okay. Gordon tells her she sucks. Ed would never leave her behind. She tells the whole crew that she wants to go after Ed and Kelly. They all cheer.
Isaac has a plan. They will pose as the enemy and slip in to find out where Ed and Kelly are. Isaac and Alara leave the ship. She puts the doctor in charge.
Ed is drinking a beer. Kelly is eating her cereal. They start fighting. They annoy each other. Alara interrupts their fight. They are thrilled to see her.
Isaac visits the Zoo keeper and tells him that the humans are contaminated with a disease. He wants to take them back. The keeper commands a euthanasia sweep. Alara tries to barter with him.
Alara is successful. Back on the ship, Ed presents Alara with a sapphire star for her courage. The crew claps. Meanwhile, the zoo goes through the files the ship gave them. Files of The Kardashians, Housewives and more have them all enthralled.
Bortis’ daughter hatches. It is a female. He is in shock!
