The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Adam (formerly played by Justin Hartley) remains separated from his family for the second consecutive year. Apparently killed in a cabin blast in September 2016, one of the great characters in Y&R history survived. But is he alone as of Christmas 2017?
Let’s not be snarky. For all who are convinced that Adam is dead, yes, if he’s in Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory, then he’s technically not alone. Instead, this feature will be hopeful, like the Christmas season, assuming that Adam is alive and living somewhere on this earth.
It wouldn’t seem logical to believe, even in the soap world, that Adam remained trapped inside the cabin while it was exploding and still lived. So, he somehow broke loose from the shackles Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) applied and escaped. However, the blast knocked him out. That means his backstory from then until now will have to be filled with soap.
Wandering like three kings in the night (Christmas imagery inserted here for effect), Adam made his way through the woods and has been living in a cave ever since. Uh, that’s not dramatic.
Okay, Adam was found by a highly attractive woman who was revenge camping (that would topical and is a funny phrase) in the woods because she’d just broken up with her boyfriend. This to-be-named character has been caring for the eventually recast Adam ever since.
The second scenario would establish an additional block between Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Adam. While Chick is working, it’s reasonable to believe that she would be instantly drawn back to Adam upon his return.
But what if Adam had amnesia and fell in love with this new lady? In this instance, Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois) would also be a stranger. That would be heart-breaking.
Of course, Bobby, or whatever he would be calling himself, would eventually regain his memory. But that process would take months, as the also-named scribe suspects.
The beauty in having Adam believe he’s another person is that proposed storyline wouldn’t repeat the face-change to Hartley arc that nicely played out in 2014. Many Y&R fans want this character back, but they also want an intriguing and believable (story)line hook to be projected.
Executive producer and head writer Mal Young hasn’t confirmed, or denied if this character will be resurrected. The solid runs of Michael Muhney and Hartley would be two hard acts to follow.
Hartley has moved onto nighttime stardom on NBC’s This Is Us. Imagine the buzz if Muhney is rehired to initially play Bobby, or if a new actor is cast in this role?
So, when will this happen? That’s actually the question that comes before how. CDL is a leading source for everything linked to The Young and the Restless. Check back regularly for Y&R spoilers and news!
