The Young and the Restless spoilers fully documented all things Adam Newman (as played by Michael Muhney and Justin Hartley in recent years). Some Y&R fans continue to push for this character’s return. It seems possible that TPTB have intentionally chosen to keep Adam dead in order to avoid real, invented and exaggerated controversies from playing out. Then again, Mal Young and Sally Sussman might simply be keeping their options open.
Hiring anyone to play Adam would stoke rage in certain contingents that profess their love for Michael Muhney and fairness. However, whatever actor wore Adam’s clothes next would likely be initially excoriated, unless of course he proved to fit in as well as Justin Hartley did. Fans of that strong actor presciently advised that he would likely score as Adam, but they were rarely given credit when he did. This scribe read those savvy fan comments, gave Hartley a chance and was rewarded.
Michael Muhney’s rehire would, in all likelihood, result in another round of outstanding soap scenes. His version of Adam was dark, vulnerable and always engaging. But the flash mob that claims to defend his honor actually seems to serve as a detriment against his rehire – as they don’t seem to grasp the ensemble nature of a soap opera. It’s a team game folks, not one man (or woman) against the cast.
In this social media age many people believe that they have ‘inside sources’. However it seems logical to conclude that the old world order still stands in Hollywoodland. Only the true decision-makers know what’s possible and the public-at-large will learn what’s been decided when information is provided.
Viewers surely are connected to some combination of family members, co-workers, neighbors or acquaintances who project themselves as omniscient. This generalized personality type believes that all things are known to them, but not accessible to others. The peons aren’t as brilliant, or at least that’s how they come across to the rest of us. This perception problem appears to be a defense mechanism, in that it allows the know-it-all to feel in control of an ever-changing world.
Of course Adam could be alive, in that his intact dead body wasn’t found outside of the exploded cabin. This Is Us was recently renewed by NBC for two years. So Hartley could return in a limited run, if he and Y&R somehow decided to make that happen. Any chosen actor could be hired to replace him, or Muhney could be rehired. That terrific actor has regularly stated that he would like a second chance.
Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) recently advised Nick (Joshua Morrow) that she never thought she’d feel this way again. The forming couple also took off their wedding rings in front of the audience and romantically bonded. All personality types can interpret that message.
