The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that fans shouldn’t lose hope for an Adam Newman comeback based on incorrect interpretations of Mal Young’s recent SOD interview. Mal Young has in no way stated or implied that he is NOT bringing Adam Newman back to Genoa City. Y&R viewers were heartbroken when Justin Hartley left the show to pursue other opportunities, but his plan paid off. Hartley’s living the dream with his role on the hit NBC drama, This Is Us.
However, there are plenty of actors who would jump at the chance to play Adam. Michael Muhney has expressed interest in reprising the role he played before Hartley. He faced some problems before his firing, but perhaps time has helped ease the tension a bit.
Of course, another actor could work as well. The point is people want Adam back on their screens. In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Mal Young talked about what’s next for The Young and the Restless. Now that he’s serving as both Y&R’s executive producer and head writer, Young will have plenty of control over what we see on a daily basis.
When asked about the cast, Young suggested that he was trying to fade the newbies out. He wants to focus on core characters, so he doesn’t have plans to add newbies of his own either. However, we can’t lump Adam in with random new people who turn up in town. Even though a new actor might play the role, Adam is a beloved Newman with a rich history. This guy was a key player for years! Yes Adam Newman is a core character which Mal Young made clear will be his focus.
Isn’t that the kind of character that Young wants to concentrate on? Bringing a core family member back from the dead would provide some great opportunities for drama. Plus, Young was careful to say “at the moment” twice during his discussion of the plan. Even if he chooses to hold off for a while, it’s not like it’s a permanent ban. It’s unrealistic to think Young will never bring anyone else on the show.
As with most writing transitions, it’s best to make changes gradually. Young would undoubtedly want to lay the proper groundwork for Adam. He would likely set everything up for a sweeps period in the future.
Mal Young refused to talk about Adam at a fan event not too long ago. That could be a good sign. They wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise of a major return like this too early. The Young and the Restless spoilers hint that some shockers will hit down the road, so stay tuned!
