The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Ashley (Eileen Davidson) has reached a point where she wants to explore a deepening of her evolving relationship with Ravi (Abhi Sinha). A trip to the Abbott cabin will test whether this potential couple can develop further.
Sinha’s addition to the cast last year was terrific. Mr. Shapur is a quirky character whose vulnerability quickly endeared him to many in Y&R’s audience. The pursuit of an older woman, and one that was his boss then created a dynamic arc.
Modern minds offer knee-jerk endorsements of anything that goes against the grain of whatever is perceived to be traditional. Those who consider themselves to be boundary line pushers and therefore advancing whatever cause(s) is currently popular wildly applauded Ravi’s efforts.
Meanwhile, back in Common Sense Land the rest of reality sees a guy who likes a woman and a woman who likes that guy back. That’s basically what this storyline is about. Two people who care each other and are taking a leap of faith by pursuing love’s potential.
Political agendists (yes, that word was invented to poke this point) must see everything through the veil of their own world order. All must agree with them, or be publicly shamed. That’s how totalitarian state members behave.
In the past people would have not only opposed Ashley and Ravi based on age, but also on race. Thus another concocted controversial issue would have been raised, as it has been now. But the characters that Davidson and Sinha portray are of the same race. It’s called human.
Those who play identity politics and their personality twins, individuals who believe in various forms of separation, have been, are and will always be wrong. Consider now what Ashley and Ravi are doing right.
They’ve hardly leaped into a relationship, but have been building to this point for many months. Rashley, as this scribe likes to call them, also worked through doubts and talked with various people about the possibility of them actually happening. That’s what real people do in the real world, which is why this storyline, as played by both strong actors is good soap.
With whatever happens in the immediate future, or by the fall, here’s hoping that new head writer and still executive producer Mal Young will allow his team to keep Ashley and Ravi together. Each person makes the other happy. That’s what functional relationships should look like in the real world, or on this classic daytime drama.
