The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) car accident will put Billy’s (Jason Thompson) love to the test. Hardcore Y&R viewers know that Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) has always been a placeholder in Billy’s heart. His true, only and lasting muse remains Victoria.
Tragedy often pushes our deepest emotions out. The veil torn, people learn how we actually feel about them and others. Divergent reactions occur within those moments.
Phyllis has always, rightly felt insecure about her relationship with Billy. Initially, she and Billy (then played by Burgess Jenkins) became unlikely friends and Y&R fans protested.
With whatever the audience’s overall feelings were about Villy, viewers knew that the original Phyllis (then played by Michelle Stafford) and the adult version of Billy (as played by Billy Miller) would never form a bond. That’s what has always made Philly illegitimate in the minds of various fans. The issue was and is plausibility.
The headline to this feature cites Billy’s love. Devoted viewers know that can only reference his feelings about Vickie. Phyllis is someone who he finds physically attractive, which makes sense as Miss Summers is gorgeous. But has he ever, or does he now love Phyllis? No evidence seems to exist in that regard.
Billy has married Vickie more than once. He accepted her generous offer to adopt Johnny (Ryan and Holden Hare). His daughter, Katie (Sienna Mercuri), is Vickie’s biological child. Billy also agreed to work at Brash and Sassy, when he doesn’t need the money, because he consciously and subconsciously wanted to remain as close as possible to Vickie. All of those factors prove love.
Another critical, though twisted point also can’t be denied. Billy’s link to Phyllis is linked to revenge against Jack (Peter Bergman). When their brotherly bond collapsed, Billy knew he could sear Jack’s soul. He’s been using Phyllis ever since, despite what’s been said to the contrary.
It’s not that Billy doesn’t like Phyllis, or enjoy her adult company. It’s that he doesn’t love her and hasn’t offered any permanent commitment option. Why do so when he actually wants to remarry Vickie, move back into their house and raise their children full-time?
As free will choices have it, Vickie won’t need to do anything in the coming days. Her covert plan to wait out Philly won’t be in play when she’s in the hospital with her new collapse while attending The Hilary Hour. Instead, Billy will rush to be with the woman he cares for.
As was the case with Jack, Phyllis won’t be the one to decide that particular relationship, whatever it actually was, is over. Billy’s actions will imply its end without him even needing to say a word. Of course this won’t stop Phyllis from slapping Billy and having a jealous fit!
