The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Zack’s (Ryan Ashton) scurvy plans are still working. He’s remained unscathed by the recent fallout involving the Genoa City sex ring. Abby (Melissa Ordway) is oblivious to the fact that she’s covering for a crime lord.
Hardcore Y&R fans who appreciate Ordway’s talent valued seeing the Abby character finally grow. That happened during the well-played Mad Max (Jared Breeze) arc that also included a stand-out performance by Sean Carrigan (Stitch, aka Ben).
Abby’s emotional development resulted through the first serious relationship she had. Her marriage to Ben represented progress. Carrigan’s later change to recurring status spelled the end of that couple. But while Stabby was together, Abby’s heart-warming reaction to Max’s condition was great.
The start of the Zack arc was good. It seemed as though Abby was expanding her business prowess by pushing the incubator idea at Newman Enterprises. Viewers recall that Abby defied her father’s instincts in this regard, a point to which Victor (Eric Braeden) later recognized.
The Moustache’s acknowledgment of Abby’s savvy, along with his ongoing trust in her leadership abilities was and is a positive point for Ordway’s character. But Y&R allowing Abby to be duped by some stereotypically sinister bad guy wasn’t wise.
Zack, or the other one-dimensional characters who’ve come before him in the soap world, will eventually be exposed. He might meet a violent end, be jailed or skip town. In any event, Abby will be portrayed as a fool who also has poor business judgment.
Y&R shouldn’t write this character back to her pigeon-hole. At least the fans know, with relief, that Mal Young is now in charge. So he can have his team change course moving forward.
The Crystal (Morgan Obenreder) part of the sex ring arc appears to be over, as that character is now being protected by the authorities. Alice (Tamara Clatterbuck) also somehow survived being hit head-on by a vehicle and was kidnapped from the hospital by Zack and his goons. Both ladies can ID Ashton’s character, so their exits keeps Zack viable for the time being.
Abby will feel betrayed and foolish once she learns, or realizes that the man she thinks is her boyfriend possesses nothing more than a bent mind. Possibly, Young will use Ordway’s alter ego in Zack’s take-down. That would be a great way to empower Abby, rather than have her be portrayed as a door mat again, or forever.
