The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Hot New Couples For 2018 - Where Mal Young Is Taking Y&R

The Young and the Restless spoilers documented executive producer Mal Young’s acceptance of Y&R’s head writer position in the summer. His first official episode was seen in late-October. To-date Young and his team’s work has produced solid results.

Generally, changes are made whenever anyone gains power within a bureaucracy. Add show business into the equation and someone in a position of authority, in this case Young, will want his mark to be seen.

The longtime British soap talent was recruited by Y&R a few years ago. He co-existed with former executive producer Jill Farren Phelps for a brief period before becoming the show’s main EP.

Sally Sussman’s return to Y&R proved to be brief. However, this scribe feels that she made a number of good decisions, including writing legacy characters back to their well-known positions of strength. But it is fair to take issue with some of Sussman’s secondary player choices.

Young didn’t exactly write out low-hanging fruit by killing off Juliet (Laur Allen) and Zack (Ryan Ashton). In doing so he axed a disliked character (Miss Helton) and an obvious short-term player (Mr. Stinnett).

Y&R’s top boss also seems to have jettisoned Graham (Max Shippee) and may be ousting Jordan (Darnell Kirkwood). Dina’s (Marla Adams) now-known diagnosis made Graham’s place seemingly unnecessary. Kirkwood is a good actor and hopefully will be retained, but that could depend on Hilary’s (Mishael Morgan) advancement.

Hevon appears to be moving toward reconciliation, which would be welcomed as well. The apparent evolution of Hilary would give her pairing with Devon (Bryton James) a fresh take. However, Hevon can wait since The Young and the Restless spoilers claim that Cane (Daniel Goddard) with his recovering baby Sam will be Hilary’s next love interest! Will Hane replace Hevon as a Y&R fan-favorite couple?

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Billy (Jason Thompson) appear to be staying together. That’s a bold choice, as some fans still aren’t accepting of Philly. This scribe has done a 180 in this regard and has been on-board with this pairing for a few months. Tognoni and Thompson have on-screen chemistry.

Young has seemingly paused Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) interest in Tessa (Cait Fairbanks). But this opportunity hasn’t been eliminated. Instead, it feels as though it’s being held until early next year.

Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor (Eric Braeden) are battling verbally, but are nevertheless still cooling. Niktor is in a slow rebuild, which is fine. Jack (Peter Bergman) just kissed off Nikki, thus she and Victor are likely left with each other.

Lane appears primed to rebound due to the aforementioned removal of Juliet. A seeming majority of fans want Lily (Christel Khalil) and Cane (Daniel Goddard) back together. Seeing them, the twins and Sam would be cool but CDL hears that Hilary and Cane are planned instead.

Mattie (Lexie Stevenson) and Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) continue to make Y&R’s cutest couple.

Sharon (Sharon Case) and Scott (Daniel Hall) aren’t solid due, in part, to Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) sudden availability and ongoing interest in Hall’s character. This establishes an intriguing triangle. As long as Y&R keeps Sharon balanced, this storyline can play out however Young likes.

Speaking of Scott, let’s give some love to his mom and stepdad, otherwise known as ‘Likey’. Tracey Bregman (Lauren) and Christian Le Blanc (Michael) are overdue for their own arc.

One of the great storyline challenges continues to be Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) unawareness of Christian’s (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) paternity. Chick hangs in the balance as a result.

J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) will spice up Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) life shortly. Jess Walton (Jill) will also do the same for every cast mate’s work life when this great actor also returns in December. Hopefully, Colin (Tristan Rogers) follows his wife home. Mix in some Esther (Kate Linder) and viewers will have a visual party at the Chancellor mansion.

Then, there’s always the question of Adam, as played by a recast whoever. That sentence assumes that Young will choose to address the issue in 2018, which he may, or may not do. Of course, if Y&R decides to reveal Christian’s paternity then it is only reasonable to assume that Adam’s return can’t be far behind, and with it, the end of Chick.

Sharon Case said in a recent interview that Shick is on – however it will be a slow reconciliation. This fits well with a paternity reveal and Adam’s return leading to Chadam being back together.
