The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that big changes are brewing for the CBS soap. Now that Sally Sussman is out as Y&R’s head writer, it’s Mal Young’s turn to bring the drama. Young is currently serving as the show’s executive producer, so he’ll be adding a lot of work with this writing gig.
Fortunately, Young is ready to take on this challenge. According to Jamey Giddens of Daytime Confidential, Young has plans for several lengthy stories featuring core characters. This could give fan favorites some meaty material and keep viewers invested as the storylines progress.
Some soap writers can get a little too hung up on character development. Many Y&R fans find the show becomes boring without any action. Other writers only focus on contrived plot points and we lose sight of who these people are. We still need to recognize the residents of Genoa City! The magic lies in the balance, so maybe Young will work toward that.
The Young and the Restless spoilers say Mal Young’s material will hit the air this October. The timing is perfect since he can tie up loose ends and set the stage for November sweeps. The show could use a solid ratings boost, so this is Young’s chance to make a huge splash.
There’s been some buzz about an Adam Newman recast over the past few months and Michael Muhney remains Y&R fans’ top choice to replace Justin Hartley, typically scoring over 85% favorable ratings on soap polls. However, nothing has panned out on screen yet. Sally Sussman resisted the idea of putting Adam back on canvas. She felt like he wasn’t necessary and had no interest of playing out anything regarding Christian’s paternity.
Will Young shift gears on all that? It seems likely since Adam is such a complex, popular character, arguably the most important character on The Young and the Restless in recent years. Most Y&R fans can’t get on board with Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) as a couple. There just isn’t much heat there.
Chelsea had her ups and downs with Adam, but that’s what made their love story so compelling. She needs a man like Adam to keep her on her toes. Will November sweeps finally bring Michael Muhney back as Adam Newman? If so, the paternity shocker shouldn’t be far behind. There’s no way that secret will be kept under wraps forever.
Adam’s return would lead to some great moments and draw in plenty of viewers. Are you excited about this possibility now that Mal Young has even more control?
