The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Vickie (Amelia Heinle) will battle for Billy’s (Jason Thompson) heart. While Philly seemed to be over, this controversial couple resurrected itself with another passionate encounter. As for Villy, each half has switched places. Yes, Vickie is now chasing Billy.
Billy Abbott has always had options regardless of the actor who played him. Perform some eye muscle warm-ups before reading this list. Ready? Billy has been embodied by: David Tom (starting in 1999), Ryan Brown, Scott Seymour, Billy Miller, Tom again, Burgess Jenkins and now, Thompson.
Six actors in 18 years is a lot, even for a soap opera. As devoted Y&R fans know, four actors have worn Billy’s clothes since January 2014 (Miller, Tom, Jenkins and Thompson). Heinle deserves a special Daytime Emmy recognition for being asked to develop on-screen chemistry with all these guys.
Thompson’s version of Billy still sees Vickie as his soul mate. They’re co-parenting two children, which includes the son (Johnny Abbott, Holden and Ryan Hare) Billy had with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Oddly, Y&R has almost always written Egan’s character as having no feelings toward or connection with her first-born son. That is a standing storyline flaw.
While Vickie touches his soul, Phyllis fuels his fire. As he recently told Miss Summers, Billy can be himself around her. Whether either character can hold the other’s respect indefinitely remains to be seen. That would be key to Philly’s endurance.
Vickie recently admitted that she wanted Billy back. That feeling has been building for awhile, but her timing was off. Philly just reconnected when Vickie offered a sincere apology to Billy for her most recent ice cold brush off.
It’s never too late on the soaps, or in real life for seemingly destined couples. The heart wants what it wants. Logic also injects itself into all considerations, or it should. That’s what makes Billy’s unexpected dilemma tough. Sure, Vickie’s being nice to him now. But she’s bobbed and weaved so much in recent months that she’s become as unreliable as he’s been until recently.
Any true attempt at a relationship with Phyllis would elicit Jack’s fish-eye. Jill (Jess Walton) will oppose that union as well, whenever that great actor returns. Billy’s romantic choice could also impact his access to and relationship with his children, which is a critical component to consider.
Would Billy and Vickie be able to pair again without falling apart shortly thereafter? Is it possible that Tognoni’s softer edition of Phyllis is Billy’s future wife?
