The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Abby (Melissa Ordway) will seriously consider helping Ashley (Eileen Davidson) run Jabot while her uncle Jack (Peter Bergman) is on a leave of absence. It’s quite clear that Victor (Eric Braeden) doesn’t value Abby’s loyalty and that Victoria (Amelia Heinle) wants to push her overboard, as proven by the plan to blame Ordway’s character for Design Date.
Newman Enterprises has long been a place where various professionals get eaten alive. One of, if not the greatest business minds that ever existed within Newman’s Genoa City-based corporate office building was possessed by the late Adam Newman (Justin Hartley). Y&R fans know how harshly he was treated by The Moustache.
While Abby doesn’t have Adam’s collegiate resume, or record of Wall Street accomplishment, she always had her dad’s back. Vickie, Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Adam can’t have ever claimed that. Instead, they regularly challenged Victor and even betrayed him on occasion.
Abby has been grateful from get-go since being tasked with significant responsibilities within the last year. She appreciated what Victor was allowing her to do and felt, naively, that she was being given an opportunity to prove herself, with an eye toward eventually taking over the reigns.
Brash and Sassy’s downfall led to Victor basically buying Vickie out. He then allowed his first-born daughter to draft the terms of her return. In order to soften the blow he’s also allowed Vickie to reenter the company with the title of Chief Operating Officer. Doing so made it look like Newman Enterprises needed Vickie’s assistance, more than she actually needed a financial rescue.
The Design Date disaster can surely be tied to Abby, as it was her initiative and backing that opened the door to Zack (Ryan Ashton). However, Victor handled the vetting process for that dark character and said minions unearthed zero dirt on the man who proved to be quite clever, until he was exposed by Scott (Daniel Hall) and shot by Crystal (Morgan Obenreder).
Ashley will need someone who she can trust while Jack helps Dina handle her evolving Alzheimer’s issues. Who better than Abby to do that? She’s gained deeply valuable experience at Newman and would surely want to help the other half of her family at this crucial point in time.
On the personal side, it would be better for Abby if she and Scott aren’t colleagues. Viewers know that what took place in the storage locker might produce personal consequences, regardless of what Abby said about having taken precautions. But that issue is yet to be written into the script.
Abby’s mom needs her help more than her dad. Leaving Newman would afford Abby an opportunity to work in a more respectful atmosphere with a seeming stronger chance at eventually achieving professional elevation. Plus, the unwanted reminder of her connection with Scott would also be negated through this proposed career switch.
