The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Victor (Eric Braeden) actually wants more than a business arrangement with Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott). He’s leveraged her back to the Ranch through her legal predicament that involved theft of his funds. But the love he’s expressed throughout the history of their relationship and also recently, underscores the Moustache’s actions just prior to Christmas.
Nikki left Victor earlier this year after Nick (Joshua Morrow) filled his mother and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) in about the Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) connection. That was a somewhat weak plot point because Nikki had stood by her husband when far more disturbing information had been revealed. But Y&R fans knew that Sally Sussman’s (former co-executive producer and former head writer) team wanted to split this longtime power couple.
To balance the critique just noted, it must be said that Nikki’s reaction to Victor’s actions was understandable. He’s taken the love of his life for granted on so many occasions that Mrs. Newman got fed up.
Nikki has subsequently said that they would eventually get back together. Victor never countered her prediction, which surely meant that he agreed their undocumented separation was actually just a cooling off period.
In recent weeks Newman Enterprises and the Hamilton-Winters Group was outbid in the effort to takeover Chancellor Park. It surprisingly was put up for sale by Genoa City, which must be in a cash crunch. Have scores of civic leaders offered too many monied promises to too many people through the years, as idealists are prone to do?
Of course, corrupt officials and corporate welfarists drain public funds and put fictional towns like GC in deep debt as well. Thus the seeming need to sell off Katherine Chancellor Park. But then it was Nikki to the rescue, using Victor’s stolen funds. That was soapily satisfying on many levels.
J.T.’s (Thad Luckinbill) past experience with Victor’s manipulation allowed Nikki to receive compassion and be let off the legal hook. The pressured truce she and her husband called leaves both sides with information evidence that serves as an insurance policy. But both halves of Niktor would damage itself if either Nikki, or Victor opt to reengage moving forward.
Victor’s living room meeting with Nikki likely brought a smile to the faces of longtime fans. Niktor represents an element of each character’s personal brand, as their mutually agreed upon terms reaffirmed. At the same time, the love this couple still shares remains forever young and always restless as are its devoted fans.
