The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Jack (Peter Bergman) will be bitter through the Christmas holiday. Ash used Dina’s (Marla Adams) Alzheimer’s diagnosis in an attempt to push Jackie out of Jabot’s CEO chair. Then, Jack responded by using the Abbott paternity card to block Ashley’s attempted coup. Which half-sibling is worse?
Jack was far more open to Dina’s return to Genoa City than Ashley was. That made sense because he had the stronger relationship with mother when he was a kid. Devoted viewers recalled why Adams’ character was written into the story in the mid-1980’s. An arc was presented that described why Dina left John (Jerry Douglas) and their three children in the 1960’s in order to find herself and later, move to Paris.
Adams initial Y&R run served to deepen Ashley’s backstory, as fans learned that John wasn’t her biological father. Brent Davis (Bert Kramer) was instead. That paternity point is now being mined by Jack as 2017 ends.
Dina’s diagnosis has impacted the Abbott family dramatically. Jack felt compelled to care for his mother, but didn’t want to give up his role as Jabot’s head. So he naively opted to work from home.
Ashley saw that Jack wasn’t able to focus fully on Dina and was bungling corporate matters. In addition, he also appeared to nix a crucial deal Ashley just completed in order to reinforce who was boss.
Miss Abbott wasn’t about to let Jack’s ego ruin their family company, so she called a board meeting. An off-screen character, Jack’s son Kyle (most recently played by Lachlan Buchanan), cast the deciding vote by mail. His no-confidence opinion meant that Jack was out as Jabot’s ruler, or was he?
Daytime devotees took note when Jack recently advised Ashley that she wasn’t a real Abbott. Ashley responded with full fury, telling her so-called sibling that he had disappointed the man who was their (emphasis applied) father.
As the battle continues, Jack is invoking public record. He’s preventing Ashley from running Jabot because she’s not John’s daughter and therefore isn’t a real Abbott.
This fight feels different that all the others Ash and Jackie had through the years. More than then just being vindictive, each side has drawn what look like permanent boundary lines.
Meanwhile, Dina recently called for her children to get along. Jack and Ashley do share an unbreakable blood tie to the woman who came to be known as Madame Mergeron. It may take her projected coming demise to force these siblings to reconcile, if they ever truly will.
With all points considered, who is worse Ashley, or Jack? Might they both be equally bad? Vote in our poll!
