Chicago Fire begins with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) arriving at Firehouse 51 at the same time. Matt reveals that he keeps thinking about Naomi Graham (Kate Villanova) and since he and Gabi Dawson (Monica Raymund) have been divorced for a while, he wants to move forward; Severide tells him to go for it. He reassures Matt he is good and that Matt should call Naomi.

Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) admits to Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) that she isn’t really sure how Kelly is doing as he is such a mystery; Stella is lacking in sleep though. Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) introduces everyone to Bill Hacker, who tells them all to listen to their chief, informing them that he was Mister September 1990. Boden threatens anyone who looks for that calendar will be looking for a new job. They all insist they are willing to take that risk but are distracted by the alarm calling them all out.

The wife comes out, saying her husband, Adam is inside as they had the fireplace going; Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) doesn’t like the brown smoke as it looks the like fire is in the walls. Matt tells Severide to take the top floor and they will take the bottom; once inside Boden sees the chimney about to collapse into the house and shouts for them to all evacuate. Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) shouts for Severide to come, but he doesn’t hear him and the roof and chimney collapses on him.

Cruz runs into the room as Matt and his truck exit the building. Boden asks for Truck 3 to report, Cruz informs him that he needs help as Severide is trapped under the chimney. Boden tells Stella and Matt to get back in there quickly as the building is about to collapse. Severide tells them he is okay and Casey tells them they need other equipment to lift the debris off him, but they spot the victim and Matt orders Brian “Otis” Zvonecek (Turi Sardarov) and Stella to take him out; Stella wants to stay with Severide but Casey demands her to leave.

Sylvie and Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) take the patient, Adam on the stretcher. Boden tells Stella she cannot return to the house because he needs to limit the weight on the floor. Herrmann wants to put water up there to help the men, but he can’t until Casey brings a couple men down. Cruz tells Matt they cannot use the airbags because they more they lift the bricks it looks like the floor will give out. Herrmann convinces Boden to let him and the lightest firefighter go up to put water on the chimney as Emily and Sylvie realize Severide has been under the burning chimney for more than 10 minutes.

Matt yells to cut the water as the floor can’t take the weight and tells Capp and all firefighters to leave the room, only leaving Matt and Cruz in the room with Kelly. They do everything they can to lift the chimney but they know if they do it any more the floor will give out. Matt tells Cruz to get out but he refuses to let Matt die with Severide. Cruz tells Matt to get ready to pull out Severide and uses a piece of wood to lift the bricks as everyone watches desperately from outside; there is a massive explosion inside the house and Stella breaks down.

Casey and Cruz help Severide out of the house and Stella emotionally hugs him. The firefighters open up the lines and blast the house. Severide insists he is fine but Boden tells him to let the doctors make that call, ordering him to get checked out and he goes with Emily and Sylvie.

Back at the firehouse, Stella follows Matt into the back room telling him she doesn’t appreciate being told to stand down. He reminds her that she can’t handle a situation when it comes to Severide and he will always do whatever is safest for all his firefighters, reminding her that Severide is okay. She is not happy she was sidelined. Emily goes to see Severide at Chicago Med, who admits that he doesn’t know why he froze in the fire. Emily says from personal experience that losing a parent messes with your head in ways you don’t even realize.

Otis, Herrmann, Cruz and Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte) sneak through the firehouse to the filing cabinets; with Herrmann looking out they begin to look for the calendar. Boden finds Herrmann who pretends he was making copies but thought the copier felt a little hot. Herrmann doesn’t want to take part in these shenanigans as he is an officer now but he definitely wants to see the calendar when they find it.

Naomi comes to see Matt revealing the thing with the trailer company isn’t over. She lets him listen to a threatening message she received for the article her and Matt did together, warning her to watch her back.

Naomi says it was an unidentified caller but there is another fire in Indianapolis. She was hoping Matt had a contact over there and she will continue to rattle cages on her end and hopes they can figure things out. Stella falls in love with Ritter’s (Daniel Kyri) dog, Tuesday saying she wants to keep the Dalmation but quickly leaves when she sees Severide. Severide says he is 100%, and there is no reason to dwell on what happened. She tells him he is like a million miles away lately, but he asks her to give him some space and walks away.

At Molly’s, Mouch and Otis are bragging to Chloe (Kristen Gutoskie) about how much of a superhero Cruz was today, lifting the chimney off of Kelly and saving his life, but he downplays it. Chloe reveals she is the head of research and works in library science; Joe is happy that she can be their secret weapon.

Stella produces a flyer about karaoke and Herrmann tells her to hang it up, hoping it will bring in new customers. Matt asks Sylvie and Emily if they know any firefighters in Indianapolis; Emily says she can’t help them and is off to see her friend’s band. Matt promises he isn’t moving to Indiana but it is to help the reporter as Sylvie bugs him about being all sultry and he will win over Naomi. Sylvie remembers she does remember someone in the IFD but needs to remember his name.

Outside, Emily’s driver seems to be circling the block as Severide arrives, offering to wait with her. He’s been thinking a lot about what she said, and she shares she lost her mom to lung cancer. She feels her mom timed it in classic form, dying in her final year of residency, but she misses her every day. Stella steps outside and witnesses them talking opens the door for her ride as she encourages him to have some fun.

All the guys are with Chloe when Otis finds a photo of the 1995 CFD Outdoor Hoops Regional Championship Runner Ups, in it is Herrmann who has extremely curly hair and Mouch is in it. They have to head into the shift and Chloe promises to keep looking.

Stella feels it is great that Kelly found someone to talk to about Benny, but Sylvie wonders if that is all they were talking about. Stella says it sounds like Emily lost someone she was close to and it’s great he has someone he can relate to. Stella is weird around Emily and Brett chalks it up to Kidd being a really friendly person.

Matt picks up a child’s toy in the office and calls Naomi to come in. When she arrives he shows her, that the fire started in the trailer the same as they had; a faulty refrigerator. She learned the trailer was sold by a company called CWG Buildings, but couldn’t find much about them other than they were incorporated on the same day by the same law firm as two subsidiaries as Glanbrook. Her theory is that once they exposed Glanbrook, they created a shell company and continued to sell the trailers under a different name. Matt is concerned that she is flying down there by herself after the threatening voicemails and would like to go with her for the road trip; she’d happy for the company.

Herrmann tells Ritter he cannot continue to have the dog at work because he doesn’t want Casey giving him grief over it. Cruz says Chloe couldn’t find the calendar as Cruz says Mr. September will forever stay folklore. Herrmann doesn’t want to get involved, but the guys push him as Ritter reminds him they respect him as boss and would follow him to hell and back. Herrmann promises by end of the shift he will find that calendar; meanwhile, the ambulance is called out for a person injured.

Sylvie calls for back up knowing it is a Packers bar and it’s going to be hell. They walk to the back of the bar and find a man with a dart inside his forehead, he is asking them if it is really that bad. The men argue whether it was an accident as Sylvie and Emily realize it is all the way in, which is at least an inch into his head and they need a trauma surgeon to remove it. A fight breaks out as Matt’s truck arrives to protect Emily and Sylvie. He pulls out the dart and passes out, so they need the stretcher to transport him.

Sylvie takes care of Stella who really got clocked in the face. Brett tells Kidd she is running herself ragged worrying about Severide, yelling at her Captain and not sleeping. She is acting thrilled about Emily’s connection to Kelly and then biting her head off the next. She knows that when someone you love goes through a traumatic event she needs to take care of herself too. She hugs Sylvie saying she needs the perfect pillow and maybe the perfect dog.

Severide finds Emily in the locker room, feeling good to have someone to talk to and asks her to grab a beer later. She tells him that when her mom died she had no one to lean on as residents were all her competitors, reminding him that he has a great support system here and a girlfriend who really loves him; suggesting he lean on her.

Herrmann knocks on the Bodens’ door and Donna (Melissa Ponzio) answers. He begs her not to get Wallace, saying he is there about the calendar. She tells Herrmann that when Boden became chief he tracked down every one and destroyed them. She tells Donna she looks nice and says “good night.” She goes upstairs and reveals to her husband that Christopher was just there about the calendar, opens the closet where the calendar is hanging and tells Wallace she wasn’t about to tell him the truth as she stares at his picture. He asks when she is going to stop and she tells him it is one of her favorite things and doesn’t plan on sharing it.

Matt and Naomi arrive at CWG Buildings site, which is locked up pretty tight; from the outside, it looks like the Granbrook and she attempts to take photos but says it is too dark. Someone is watching them from the distance.
