Chicago PD begins with Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) waking up in bed with Adam Rusek (Patrick John Flueger), saying she needs to go as she needs to meet Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). She wants him to play like this never happened, he agrees; but they both felt it was pretty fun.
At the IU, Sgt Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) brings in several uniformed officers in and remove Dt. Alvin Olinsky’s (Elias Koteas) desk. Dt. Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) picks up Al’s hat and hangs it on the wall. Sgt Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) promises Platt he is working really hard on making sure Olinsky’s pension comes through for his family.
Dt. Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) confirms that his CI’s story checks out and 6 restaurants have been robbed in the little village and since it is probably ran by immigrants they won’t report it. Antonio wants to put boots on the ground, but Rusek feels its like finding a needle in a haystack. Just as they being to argue where their priorities are, Kevin says there is a possible armed robbery in progress in the little village, Voight says they roll on it, “as a team!”
At the scene, Hailey informs Voight that the owner was shot in the throat, Jay says the gunmen told everyone to get down and started shooting. Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) comes in, reveals they took a young Caucasian as a hostage into a blue Honda; outside Kevin found a key fob by the door. They arrive at Evan Gilchrist’s (Rob Morrow) house, who confirms the car at the scene of the crime is his daughter’s car, and they reveal that she might be the one who was abducted.
Evan reveals his daughter, Valerie is a blogger and likes to eat at these exotic places. He wants to help, but Voight encourages him to sit back and allow them to do their job. Voight tells him to leave his phone on as Burgess says they just got a ping from Valerie’s phone. They go to the scene and find the phone and a burnt out car. Superintendent Katherine Brennan (Anne Heche) arrives at the scene and reminds Voight how much of pain Evan Gilchrist has been to the CPD and how important it is to “button up” this case quickly. He remembers that her boss is running for mayor, she says to get whatever he need; including more boots on the ground.
Back at the unit, the IU talk about everything they know thusfar about Valerie. They realize this crew is checking out the restaurants before they rob them, knowing when the place would be fat and how to slip away without being detected. They all have different ideas of why they took Valerie Gilchrist. Voight confronts Evan for putting up posters with a reward of half a million dollars to find her.
Voight feels Evan is now getting in the way of his job and orders everyone to stop being telemarketers, hang up the phones and focus on police work. Kim returns with a photo of the car beside some garbage truck. They find the man and his mother pushes him to tell the police what he knows. He admits that she was running and a Latino man was chasing her. He says he gets paid to do garbage, not to solve crimes. A short time later, Kevin, Hailey, Jay and Adam find Valerie in an abandoned warehouse and call for EMS.
Kim and Hailey learn from the young girl, Valerie what happened at the restaurant. She says she doesn’t remember anything about the men, no scars nor tattoos. Hailey goes to grab Halstead and wants to go back to the other robberies that weren’t reported.
When they meet the owner, he says they were mistaken. Jay confronts Miguel saying they know there is a stickup crew going around and they have nothing to be scared of; while they continue to talk, Hailey walks to the back and questions his fiance who says Miguel is the victim but not from the guys who did the robbery but the men who come after demanding protection money. He is going to lose everything because he doesn’t have his papers. She says she will help them.
Antonio and Voight sneak up on Johnny Marquez (Jose Santiago), confronting him about being in a protection racket. Voight demands to know the name of the crew that is robbing the area and all the people they have arrested are singing. Johnny doesn’t believe him, until Voight says his aunt has 15 guns over her house and his ex-baby mama has a few kilos over her house; and Voight has a team of guys waiting to take them out. Voight punches him when he says he only gets a taste from the robberies and Voight wants the names.
Antonio shows IU who they are looking for – Pablo Souza and Jorge Luna. Voight tells them to find them right now. Antonio tells the coach to get the kids off the baseball team off the field and roders the team to not do anything crazy as there are lots of people around. Jorge made them and they cannot do anything. Antonio orders them to stand down, but Adam runs after him and cuffs him. After he is taken away, Antonio is furious with Adam for not following his order; Adam asks him if they are going to do this again, and again?
Superintendent Brennan meets Evan Gilchrist but he will never show up for CPD, saying the only reason the garbage man talked is for the money.
Voight and Antonio interrogate Jorge and when they show him pictures of Valerie, who says she can prove he was at the crime scene, he swears he has nothing to do with that as he would never hurt a woman and demands a lawyer. Jorge’s alibi is being with Pablo, but they can’t verify that because he is in the wind. They only have the word of criminal Johnny Marquez and the garbage man but Jay Halstead calls with bad news, saying Hugo Sanchez (Jose Antonio Garcia) won’t be any good, as patrol just found his body.
Voight wants Valerie to come in and make an ID with a lineup and maybe she will see Jorge and something will click. She says they had masks on, but they suggest maybe there are other features she might recognize; Evan doesn’t like that Voight is pushing his daughter feeling maybe Voight’s boss is using this for political gain, but Voight sets him straight informing him this might be about his reward getting Hugo killed. Voight tells Kim to let Evan and Vanessa use the back exit where there is no press.
Jay and Hailey feel Pablo is a ghost and Voight suggests they use a different angle, so him and Kevin release Jorge without bail but he is a marked man and put word on the street that he is a snitch and they escort him; their plan is that the first person he talks to is Pablo.
Adam and Kevin watch Jorge as do Jay and Hailey, revealing what building he walks into. Kevin tells Adam to move on with this Antonio thing, saying although Antonio plays by the book, he is a good cop. Before they can continue with their conversation, there are shots fired from the building Jorge went into, they find Pablo shot and Jorge escapes and jacks a truck and now armed.
The team rushes back to the station, informing everyone that he is looking for Valerie; Jorge went straight to the restaurant that Valerie works at part-time. Kim reveals that Valerie and Jorge have been hooking up for about a month; Voight orders the team to find Valerie – NOW!
Kim and Hailey confront Valerie to stop screwing them around, or they will charge her with felony obstruction and take her to jail or she can help them out. Valerie says they had an amazing connection, even though he was a little crazy. Hailey understands that she fell for the “bad boy”. She explains that she was out with Jorge, when he got a call, she drove him to the restaurant and he met with Pablo. She dropped him off, but stuck around and when she heard the yelling she saw Pablo shoot the guy. It was Pablo who threw her in the car, dropped off Jorge but kept her in the car; that is why she tries to run. Hailey asks where Jorge is, as it will never last, as it never does with bad boys. Kim feels she is hiding something.
Trudy tells Voight she had a letter written up for Olinsky’s exoneration and it only needs his signature; its sitting on his desk. He walks into his office and Brennan is sitting there, demanding to know why Valerie who is dating one of the criminals and is guilty of felony obstruction. She orders him to book her. Voight gets that if they do this, then Gilchrist’s critcism of the CPD is just another bitter father with an axe to grind against them. He reminds her what would make her look worse is if Jorge kills more people and the press finds out she could have used Valerie to get him off the streets instead of playing politics.
Kim hands Voight some papers fro 4 hours ago and he demands her to “get him down here!” Evan comes in ranting and raving. Voight says he is trying to help him, saying Valerie is jacking up with the killer and it looks like she is helping him get away. Voight shows him proof that Valerie is giving money to Jorge and she will do time for helping a fugitive. He only cares about catching a killer, and if Valerie helps them, he will make sure she doesn’t get jammed up.
Valerie calls Jorge, trying to keep him talking, but when he says he loves her, she reveals its a trap. Jay grabs Valerie as Adam rams his truck. Jorge runs inside the building that is filled with kids after a few shots are fired. Kevin and Kim bring the kids away from the scene outside, as Antonio and Adam work together to breech the door, a child points to the room, where Jorge is holding several terrified children hostage.
One by one, Antonio brings the kids out, Adam shoots Jorge and Antonio gets the last child out. Back at the CPD, Evan is upset that Valerie is being taken away in handcuffs, Voight apologizes saying the deal is off and she is being charged with felony obstruction; Evan makes a call.
Superintendent Brennan meets with Voight, saying she heard he arrested the Gilchrist girl as she will ride the full ticket and do the full time. She isn’t pleased as she doesn’t pose a threat to the city. Hank says its because her daddy is rich and she can walk. Brennan says its because she is a kid and deserves a second chance. Voight says he needs something from her too.
Hailey tells Adam that Antonio was released from the hospital; but he wants to revisit what she said about bad boys. She says that he isn’t a bad boy; but since they are talking about the thing that never happened, she wants to know the deal between him and Burgess. He thinks she is amazing and he loves her, they hit a lot of bumps in the road but at the end of the day she didn’t want to be with him and they are friends. It’s that simple.
He gets if Hailey doesn’t want to continue, but he wants to see where this goes. They end up in bed together, obviously quite content with where things stand between them.
Evan talks about CPD and his gratitude to them, deciding who he supports for mayor. Hank sits in his office, where Trudy joins him. He hands her the exoneration letter for Alvin Olinsky, signed by Superintendent Brennan. She tears up, impressed asking if this has to do with the Gilchrist kid walking and Hank says sometimes things just work out. They toast a drink to Al!
THE END!
