Dancing With the Stars Athletes Premiere Recap 5/7/18: Season 26 Week 2

Tonight on ABC the glitz and the glimmer returns to the ballroom as Dancing With The Stars Athletes season 26 episode 2 airs! We have your all-new Monday, May 7, 2018, season 26 Week 2 “Premiere” Dancing With The Stars recap below! On tonight’s DWTS Season 26 episode 2 as per the ABC synopsis, “The eight remaining athletes have amped up their training sessions as they prepare to head into week two with a double-header dance bill. In round one, each couple will perform an individual dance: quickstep, foxtrot, Viennese waltz, cha cha, Paso doblé or salsa. Then, in round two of the evening, the athletes and their pros will be grouped into two teams – Team 1950s Tennis and Team 1970s Football. The team dance scores will be combined with the athlete’s individual dance scores along with the previous week’s overnight votes for a final tally to determine the eliminations at the end of the night.”

Tonight Rashad Jennings returns to the ballroom as a guest judge. On to the dances, the first couple up tonight is:

Josh Norman and Sharna Burgess – Paso Doblé to “The Plaza of Execution” by James Horner.

Judges Comments: Rashad: “You came out of the football field and you took control tonight. I’m proud of you, you did a great job.” Len: “I was expecting a little more but however last week you did a good job and tonight equally the same, full of attack.” Bruno: “I love the strength and the power, you just went for it. I loved the sculptural shapes were great. Just sustain your lines, but great performance.” Carrie Ann: “You were strong two weeks in a row, you were very grounded and passionate tonight, just use your arms more.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 7, Rashad: 7, Len: 8, Bruno: 8 = Total 30/40

Jennie Finch Daigle and Keo Motsepe – Cha Cha to “Make Me Feel” by Janelle Monáe.

Judges Comments: Len: “Well done, a very competent performance, it was clean and crisp but lacked rhythm.” Bruno: “You look like cat woman in that outfit. You have to work on your hands and timing, you were off. You had a bad night.” Carrie Ann: “I applaud you for choosing what was right for you, I think that is a great example. I do think that maybe changing the song and dance is what made you lose your connection.” Rashad: “Cha cha is a difficult dance, tonight you had an opportunity to hit it out of the park and you did.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 6, Rashad: 7, Len: 7, Bruno: 6 = Total 26/40

Judges Comments: Bruno: “That was eye to eye for the first time and very clever. The choreography was so imaginative. It was Harlem at its best.” Carrie Ann: “It was a lovely tribute to your father. The second half you were better, the audience went crazy. That was your best dance so far.” Rashan: “I am even honored to be talking to one of the true greats of the game of basketball. I’m picking you, man, you are tall and you can stand taller today because your father is looking down and he is proud.” Len: “Compared to last week there was far more content, far more rhythm, and far more fun.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 7, Rashad: 7, Len: 6, Bruno: 6 = Total 26/40

Chris Mazdzer and Witney Carson – Viennese Waltz to “Next To Me” by Imagine Dragons.

Judges Comments: Carrie Ann: “Wow, I am so impressed, from week one you have shown so much potential. That was outstanding, you had all the nuances, you had the finesse, the grace, you were telling a story, pretty darn good if you ask me.” Rashan: “Absolutely amazing, hats off to you, you had control of your body.” Len: “I didn’t like the spinning, however, I admired that when you were in the hold you had sway, and your footwork was great, better than last week, well done.” Bruno: “You are a leading man, the dance was fluid and you used the space very well.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 9, Rashad: 8, Len: 8, Bruno: 8 = Total 33/40

Tonya Harding and Sasha Farber – Quickstep to “Redneck Woman” by Gretchen Wilson.

Judges Comments: Rashad: “I absolutely loved it, my country girl. You get to show the world another side of you and I loved it. You are showing the world a new chapter of your life. I love it.” Len: “It was fast, I liked the routine, I liked the energy. This made me feel good, I liked it so much, well done.” Bruno: “For a split second I got a bit worried. I have to say it was great fun, high energy and high spirited. Don’t lose your neck, shoulders down, let him lead you.” Carrie Ann: “You had so much strength, leading Sasha, the toning was like an equal partnership, it was a real joy.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 8, Rasha: 9, Len: 8, Bruno: 8 = Total 33/40

Mirai Nagasu and Alan Bersten – Foxtrot to “It’s a Small World” by The O’Neill Brothers Group (“We Love Disney”).

Judges Comments: Len: “You were sprinkled with a little bit of Disney magic because that for me has been the best dance so far.” Bruno: “Gorgeous and radiant, you were the embodiment of a fairytale princess.” Carrie Ann: “That was gorgeous and what I thought you were capable of. Every movement was finesse, you absolutely had the Disney force with you tonight.” Rashan:“I thought it was great, it was grateful and peaceful.” Judges Scores:  Carrie Ann: 9, Rashad 10, Len: 9, Bruno: 9 = Total 37/40

Arike Ogunbowale and Gleb Savchenko – Foxtrot to “What About Us” by P!nk.

Judges Comments: Bruno: “The heels did the trick, your poise and posture were much better. Tonight you showed your beautiful self. just your shoulders are still a bit high.” Carrie Ann: “You are magic, what I saw just now made me cry. There was something powerful that happened right in front of my eyes. Thank you for putting on the shoes.” Rashan: “You can perform under pressure, you are a beautiful woman.” Len: “You did fantastic footwork, great job, terrific, well done.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 8, Rashad: 9, Len: 8, Bruno: 8 =Total 33/40

Adam Rippon and Jenna Johnson – Quickstep to “Make Way” by Aloe Blacc.

Judges Comments: Carrie Ann: “So tight, it was like measured out. I did see that you were not on balance, there was room for growth.” Rashad: “That was absolutely stunning, I love the outfit. I love your chemistry, you have a true partnership and I love seeing you both dance.” Len: “You did a days steps in one and a half minutes. So much content, so much speed but so much clarity. Well done.” Bruno: “You were not messing around, no distraction, absolutely fantastic dancing all the way through, your timing was impeccable.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 9, Rashad: 9, Len: 9, Bruno: 10 = Total 37/40.

Judges Comments: Len: “It was tight, I loved all the tennis references, each one came out and did their individual part, well done.” Bruno: “I am not sure if you are going to make the final of the US open, but I have to say some of you will make the finals though, that was witty, imaginative, everybody had the chance to shine.” Carrie Ann: “I applaud you guys, it really felt like a team dance, it was so much fun, good job.” Rashad: “This is the second week and you all had to learn two dances; that was touch and I had a good time.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 8, Rashad: 9, Len: 8, Bruno: 8 = Total 33/40

Judges Comments: Bruno: “I love it, this was Monday night fever. You threw everything you had into this.” Carrie Ann: “It just kept getting better and better, it was so much fun.” Rashad: “That was absolutely entertaining if this franchise is for sale I am buying it.” Len: “I love it, a little hustle in there.” Judges Scores: Carrie Ann: 9, Rashad: 10, Len: 9, Bruno: 9 = Total 37/40

Time for results. The first couple in jeopardy is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Lindsay Arnold, the second is Chris Mazdzer and Witney Carson and joining them are Arike Ogunbowale and Gleb Savchenko. The rest of the couples are safe.

On this second week in this four week season, the couple who is safe is Chris Mazdzer and Witney Carson.
