Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that Sami (Alison Sweeney) will soon have her hands full with the mystery patient. After moving the patient to the burn unit at Salem University Hospital, Sami will do her best to get answers about the man’s true identity. Of course, she’s hoping that she’s finally found EJ (last played by James Scott), but right now it seems impossible to tell.
The mystery patient, while he’s got the same general build as EJ, has been burned badly, to the point where nobody can tell whether he’s EJ or not. And he’s non-responsive and can’t speak for himself about who he is, assuming he knows who he is. If he’s EJ, then he was brought back to life by Rolf’s (William Utay) serum, which has unpredictable effects on people and apparently left him semi-catatonic.
So, Sami’s only real hope at this point for uncovering the mystery patient’s identity is a DNA test, but as we all know, any DNA test conducted in Salem is suspect. But there are some clues that we, but not Sami, are privy to that might help shed light on whether the mystery patient is EJ or some sort of decoy.
First off, while the mystery patient’s face has never been shown on screen, his face has been shown prominently in Soaps In Depth and on the internet. We know that the actor portraying the mystery patient is Trey Baxter, an actor and model who appears to be in his 20s – far younger than EJ would be.
But then Days went with the “mystery patient gets burned” storyline after allowing his face to be shown in Soaps In Depth and after everyone knew Trey Baxter was portraying the mystery patient. Days seems to want us to believe that EJ has been recast, but for it to be a mystery to Sami whether the man is actually EJ.
So, the question must be asked…are we being duped into believing that this is EJ? We need to be careful in jumping to conclusions. Sure, we were shown Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) interacting with the mystery patient as if he should be responding to Sami’s name, but does that really mean that the mystery patient is EJ? It could be that Kristen and Rolf have programmed a decoy with EJ’s memories (this is Days, after all).
Time will tell whether the mystery patient is EJ, and whether Trey Baxter is going to assume the role of EJ from James Scott. But keep in mind that even if it turns out that we’re all led to believe that he’s EJ…he could still not be.
