Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) condition will become grave. Although she’ll briefly wake up from surgery, she’ll soon take a turn for the worse when John (Drake Hogestyn) finds her in distress. Valerie (Vanessa Williams) will work feverishly to save Marlena’s life, and she’ll have success, but Marlena will have to be intubated in order to breathe.
It will turn out that Marlena will require a considerable amount of medical intervention to stay alive. At around the same time, Belle (Martha Madison) will discover Marlena’s living will among her insurance papers. The living will explains exactly how Marlena wants her doctors to treat her in the event that she’s incapacitated and unable to speak for herself.
According to Days spoilers, Marlena’s living will is going to spell out what Marlena wants to happen if she winds up in a state from which she’ll never recover. Marlena will have made it clear that no heroic measures should be taken to save her life under those conditions.
Unfortunately, Marlena’s condition will continue to deteriorate to a point where her living will is going to come into play, and at some point her doctors’ actions will be governed by the living will, and not by her next of kin’s wishes. That means that Marlena’s family will need to be prepared for her imminent death.
And so the family will gather to say their goodbyes. Expect some heartfelt and tearful moments, as well as some family conflict. It will be particularly difficult for John and Belle, who will disagree about whether Marlena’s living will should be honored, given the particulars of Marlena’s condition. Belle will feel that Marlena’s wishes are clearly spelled out in the living will, but John will disagree and will want every measure to be taken to save “Doc’s” life.
Of course, given that Deidre Hall has no plans to leave Days, it looks like Marlena will eventually pull through. But there will certainly be some emotional and scary moments for her family as they wait and wonder whether they’ll get a miracle, or whether Marlena will slip away under the terms of her living will.
