Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that a shocking exit could be looming. Soap Opera Digest recently released a couple blind items about tense contract negotiations. They hinted that things were going south for two favorites on one soap and a superstar on another. Nothing’s been confirmed yet, but new leaks suggest that Stephen Nichols (Steve) could be the answer to one of these items.
Nichols would certainly be considered a superstar of the soap world having starred on General Hospital and The Young and the Restless as well as Days during his illustrious career. He’s also quite popular with fans, so the blind item about favorites would work for him as well. Either way, there’s definitely some DOOL buzz about Nichols’ potential departure. Nichols himself added to the buzz with some recent Instagram posts.
On April 20, Nichols took a jab at Days for not giving Steve and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) the airtime they deserve. He started by posting a picture of an SOD article, which named Nichols and Evans performers of the week. Nichols added some negative comments about not giving fans enough “Stayla.” It seems he’s just not happy with Days of Our Lives’ plan at the moment.
“I do believe continuing to weave Steve and Kayla’s past into present day story is intelligent writing,” Nichols said. “However, one day per week(or less )doesn’t give the fans enough time to live with these characters. Respectfully, hoping for a remedy to this.”
Nichols followed up with another intriguing post on April 23. He took a selfie along with a few photos of flowers around his yard. Nichols said, “Another beautiful spring season at my house. #grateful #photooftheday #days.”
On the surface, that just seems like a cute way of showing off beautiful blooms. However, there could be a deeper meaning behind it. Notice that Nichols included the Days hashtag. Perhaps he’s subtly saying that he’s not at DOOL now, but he’s still loving life.
It’s also worth mentioning that Evans appears to have been working without him. Although Kayla’s sometimes in doctor mode and doesn’t need Steve around, this certainly isn’t a good sign considering the other clues. Every little thing matters here.
Contract negotiations have indeed been underway for Nichols, so there’s a chance that he just couldn’t get the deal he wanted. He was obviously looking for more airtime, but what if Days wouldn’t budge? They could be forced to write Steve out down the road.
On the bright side, Days of Our Lives spoilers say Steve’s vision will be restored. That’s definitely something to look forward to. No matter what happens, Steve will remain on screen for a while. The show tapes several months in advance, so there are many more Steve scenes coming up.
