Tonight on FOX their blockbuster drama Empire airs with an all-new Wednesday, May 9, 2017, episode and we have your Empire recap below. On tonight’s Empire season 4 episode 16 called, “Fair Terms” as per the FOX synopsis, “When Cookie finally visits her mother, the two must confront their complicated past. Meanwhile, Lucious and Eddie continue their fight over Empire and Eddie makes a power play at the grand opening of Empire’s 20 for 20 showcase. Then, Jamal and his band anonymously release their latest single and Hakeem tests out a career in film.”

Cookie had needed her own mother after being, therefore, Maya when Poundcake. She had pushed her own mother away because she had an idea about what her mother was like, however, she decided on tonight’s all-new episode of “Empire” to see if she could have been wrong. Cookie went over to her mother’s house and she was greeted with so much warmth and love that she wondered why it took her so long to meet with Renee. Renee hadn’t held a grudge. She had always loved her daughter and so she had been glad to finally be able to prove it. Renee had been surrounded by pictures she took of Cookie and her sisters. She hadn’t been able to be there for the important moments and so she stayed in the back taking pictures just so she could hold onto those memories.
Cookie hadn’t known that her mother had been there in the background, so Cookie stuck around longer than she thought she would and she got to know her mother. Cookie had been off rebuilding her relationship with Renee when Lucious got word everything had been taken care of. Shine’s body had been passed off to people that dismembered him and dumped the parts throughout the boroughs. It was a counter-forensic measure and it meant no one would be able to tie Lucious back to his friend’s disappearance. Lucious had liked that everything had been handled so careful and had been ready to never talk about the subject again though Andre sort of had to bring Shine back up.
Andre had talked to the members of the board that was still loyal. He knew that if it came down to it that the family was safe because they held the majority board seats and so he told his father about everything. Andre mentioned that they had their votes, other board members and that the swing vote was Shine. Shine was needed to vote with them and Lucious knew that Shine was never going to come back alive to make that vote. It was literally impossible! Lucious eventually admitted to his son what happened to Shine and so he asked him if they could still win with Shine abstaining from the vote. And they couldn’t. Andre said that they’d still lose in that case and he added that what they needed was to have Shine declared dead.
It took some time to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, but it got done and Shine was later “found”. The police had no idea who could have killed him because so much had happened to the body and that it worked in the Lyons’ favor. They even hosted Shine’s funeral and had everyone was there. It was a huge thing that Shine would have loved. His favorite artists sang in his honor and his baby mamas had mostly kept the peace. They had at least waited until after the service to argue and Shine’s widow had helped kept them in line. Tiffany had really loved Shine and so Lucious made sure to be there for her because he thought she was the one that would inherit his board seat.
Unfortunately, Lucious had been wrong. Tiffany didn’t have the head for business and so Shine had left his seat to Nessa. The same Nessa that had an ugly history with the Lyons and so the Lyons went into control mode fairly quickly. They did their best to talk to Nessa and as it turns out they got to her too late. She had already talked to the Anika. Anika had talked to board members at Shine’s funeral and she had tried to get everyone to turn on the Lyons. The Lyons had made a lot of enemies and so they tried to fix that with Nessa. They went to her and had actually apologized for the shabby way they’ve treated her. Andre explained that he had been in a dark place when they were together and that he should never have hurt someone to get over losing his wife.
Nessa had thought that was sweet yet she rightly felt that it shouldn’t have taken Andre that long to apologize and so she hadn’t changed her mind for him. She had changed her mind because she talked to Lucious about Shine and he promised to find his friend’s killer before taking care of them like Shine would have. That promise that had been enough Nessa to trust the family and so she gave them her vote. Anika and Eddie later found out what happened and Anika tried to strategize properly. She said needed to change other people minds and Eddie disagreed. He was done having a bloodless coup. Eddie told her to go after the artists in the 20 for 20 and so they went after the newest artist.
They went after Blake and they found a picture of him holding a confederate flag. The picture had been taken when Blake was a kid and he hadn’t seemed like he still believes in that mentality, but that’s not what mattered to the media when they attended House Empire. Until then, the event had been a hit and everyone had enjoyed themselves. That included Renee who was still trying to have a relationship with Cookie. Cookie had made it hard at first and she came around in the end because she realized she grew up stronger thanks in large part to her mom. So they had gotten along and Cookie had also introduced her mother to her sons. This one time everyone had been happy! The family was reunited, Hakeem had taken a date to the event, and the board had thought House Empire was a hit.
Then the news broke about Blake and everyone that moment to turned to Eddie!
Eddie managed to paint himself as the savior of the event and had gotten Lucious grabbing him on camera, so matter what happens next it seems that Eddie has won for now.
