General Hospital Spoilers: Beloved GH Star Passes Away – Tragic Loss Brings Outpouring of Support

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that the soap world is in mourning. A beloved GH star has passed away, so this is a difficult day for fans and everyone at the ABC soap. Susan Brown has died at the age of 86, so General Hospital’s staff, cast and crew have been offering their condolences to her grieving family.

Brown portrayed Gail Adamson Baldwin, stepmother of Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and second wife of Lee Baldwin (Peter Hansen). She played this recurring role on GH from 1979-2004. Brown was also featured on the General Hospital spinoff, Port Charles. She brought a lot to the table, so some GH viewers will remember her well.

Kin Shriner certainly has fond memories of Brown and their time working together. He tweeted, “Sad to say one of my best friends and costars Susan Brown passed away today she played Gail Baldwin @GeneralHospital my mother R.I.P. Susan I will miss all our laughs.” It’s sweet that Shriner reminded fans of Brown’s character and talked the fun she brought to his life.

Frank Valentini also tweeted out in sorrow. He stated, “It’s a very sad day in Port Charles as the wonderful Susan Brown (‘Gail Baldwin’) passed away today. My sincerest condolences to her family and to all who knew this amazing woman.”

Next, it was Jackie Zeman’s (Bobbie Spencer) turn to chime in. She replied to Shriner’s tweet with some heartfelt words. “Kin I am so sorry for your loss,” Zeman said. “I will miss Susan too. She was so very special, on set and in friendship. I remember all the good times we shared on our General Hospital lunch breaks at her amazing dinner parties at her beautiful home. RIP Susan + God Bless.”

Various sources report that Brown died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She began her daytime television career in 1959 as Liz Fraser Allen in “From These Roots.” From there, Brown went on to play in many soap operas. She was a temporary replacement for Ann Flood on The Edge of Night, a soap based on the TV show Perry Mason. She played the role of Nancy Pollock Karr for that gig.

Brown also played in The Young Marrieds as Ann Reynolds (1964-1966), Bright Promise as Martha Ferguson (1969-1971) and Constance McKenzie Carson in Return to Peyton Place (1972-1974). Her next soap role came on The Young and the Restless. She portrayed Fran Whitaker on Y&R in 1975 before playing Adelaide Fitzgibbon on As The World Turns in 1988.

Brown played Dorothy Lane on Santa Barbara (1988) as well. She was clearly a respected star in the biz, so her memory will live on. General Hospital spoilers state that life will also go on in Port Charles, but it’s always tough to lose a familiar face. We’ll give you updates as other GH news comes in.
