General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that there’s much more to come in the Jason (Steve Burton), Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Drew (Billy Miller) saga. This popular storyline shows no signs of slowing down. Frank Valentini, the ABC soap’s executive producer, had plenty to say in a recent interview with Michael Fairman. He dished on the love triangle and what GH viewers can expect in the months ahead.
For starters, Valentini addressed the character change for Billy Miller. Some fans were upset that Miller was stripped of the Jason title, but it seems like both Drew and his supporters have reached a place of acceptance. Miller’s rocking his new role and Valentini is pleased by the story overall.
“I knew it was going to work,” Valentini said. “You can’t go wrong with these actors: Billy Miller, Kelly Monaco and Steve. They are all fantastic, and you know it’s going to be dynamite.” However, there are obviously major fan wars going on. The “JaSam” vs. “Dream” battle is still going strong.
Unfortunately, some General Hospital viewers have gone a bit overboard. It’s fine to cheer on a favorite couple, but the attacks directed at the actors have been pretty outrageous. “I love that there is a rivalry and I love that there is a passion there for them, but I don’t like when it gets personal,” Valentini said. “I don’t think that’s fair.”
Valentini also offered his take on Sam’s situation. He noted that it’s very possible for Sam to love two men and that’s exactly what she’s dealing with right now. Valentini mentioned the “intense chemistry” between Monaco and Miller. He’s thrilled with the work they’ve been doing. Of course, Valentini enjoys Burton and Monaco’s side of all this as well.
As for the onscreen love triangle, Valentin believes it’s a level playing field. “Drew came into her life when she really needed somebody, and it’s that versus the history, the love, and the legacy of Jason and Sam,” he said. “It’s all an equal match made in heaven.”
