General Hospital (GH) spoilers has some sad news to pass on about a beloved member of the GH family. The head of GH’s hair and makeup department, Donna Messina, has passed away following a battle with cancer. Donna worked in the makeup department at GH since 1982 and won multiple Daytime Emmy Awards in that capacity.
After her death, GH stars began a flurry of touching tributes to Donna on social media. Maurice Benard, who portrays Sonny on GH, posted a sweet photo of himself and Donna on Instagram along with some kind words about her. “Sometimes you meet someone in life you just connect with and then unfortunately life just takes that person away,” he wrote.
Wally Kurth (Ned) also posted a photo of himself and Donna on Twitter. “Our dear Donna Messina. We will miss you so much,” he wrote. “I always loved sitting in your makeup chair, getting the low down, hearing the latest studio gossip. You were the heart and soul of the GH hair/makeup room. Heartbreaking. RIP.”
Dominick Zamprogna (ex-Dante) weighed in as well. “Donna welcomed me and treated me like a long lost Italian family member from day 1,” he tweeted. “Always supportive and smiling. Heart. Broken. Rest easy beautiful Donna.”
And Frank Valentini, GH’s executive producer, had the following to say: “To say her presence will be missed is an understatement. She was an incredibly warm, witty, and all-around great gal. Our thoughts go out to her loved ones.”
