A heartbroken Kate Middleton fled to Ireland with her mother Carole Middleton soon after she broke up with Prince William when they were still dating in 2007. There’s a new published report that says Kate visited the Emerald Isle to sort out her personal feelings after Prince William pulled the plug on their five-year romance.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were together for years before the young royal started having doubts about their relationship. As a result, a 25-year-old Kate wanted to escape all of the media attention and retreated to Dublin with her mother Carole for some much-needed respite. She remained in the Irish capital for some time, and was even part of the Dublin social scene.
As a matter of fact, during their first joint interview in 2010, Kate was even asked about their split. She said at the time, “I think I at the time wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person. You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realized. Or I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger. I really valued that time for me as well although I didn’t think it at the time, looking back on it.”
Prince William, meanwhile, said that after the break up, he and Kate simply needed some time to “find themselves.” Despite getting back together again after a short three-month break, many media outlets dubbed the Duchess “Waity Katie” since William couldn’t make up his mind about her.
For many royal observers, it comes as no surprise that Kate Middleton’s mother Carole Middleton consoled her daughter while she was trying to get over her heartache in Ireland. After all, the mother and daughter duo have always been close and to this day, Carole Middleton remains as a prominent fixture in Kate’s life. William and Kate eventually did manage to work out their personal issues and get back together again. They’ve now been married for seven years and have three small children in their family.
So far, the Duchess of Cambridge herself has not made any comments about her past with Prince William. There’s a strong possibility that she simply wants to not think about the past, but move on with what happened and focus on her family instead.
