Meghan Markle is being called the royal family’s most feminist royal ever. Now, one of the reasons why Meghan Markle is being called one of the most feminist royals is mostly because of the things she’s said and done in the past. After all, the Duchess of Sussex was very vocal and passionate about women’s issues and equalities for many years.
In 2015, Meghan gave a speech on gender equality at the United Nations in New York alongside fellow Hollywood actress Emma Watson. During her speech, which was on International Women’s Day, Meghan famously said, “Women don’t need to find their voice, they need to be empowered to use it and people need to be urged to listen.”
In addition, Meghan also wrote an empowering essay for Time Magazine about breaking certain taboos and wanting to see young women succeed in life. If that weren’t enough, this is the same person, who at just 11-years-old, wrote a letter to Ivory washing-up liquid about the wording that was used in their ad.
She might have only been in the 5th grade, but even back then Meghan understood that the message that was being sent out was that women belonged in the kitchen and nowhere else. During her time in Hollywood, Meghan even called out a controversial radio host for treating women “like they are pieces of meat.” In other words, Meghan was never afraid to pull any punches and speak her mind about gender equality, no matter what other people had to say about it.
Clearly, Meghan has used her platform numerous times to speak out about subjects that other royals wouldn’t dare talk about in public. So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about Meghan Markle being the most feminist member of the royal family or if she will engage in any campaigns about it in the future, although it’s doubtful.
There’s more of a chance that Meghan will continue to join her husband Prince Harry along with Prince William and Kate Middleton about their mental health awareness campaign. She’ll most likely help encourage citizens to talk about their feelings and emotions openly, rather than talk about gender equality. But then again, Meghan is sending out a message in her wardrobe. She’s been wearing more and more pantsuits in public, which is in contrast to all of the conservative dresses that her sister-in-law Kate wears.
