Meghan Markle has reportedly turned down an invitation to attend next month’s star-studded Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. Meghan, who is now married to Prince Harry, played Rachel Zane on the USA legal drama Suits for eight seasons before quitting the show earlier this year.
According to reports, the Duchess of Sussex politely turned down her invitation to attend the 70th Emmy Awards ceremony with her former co-stars. Apparently, her decision was her way of drawing the line in the sand between her old acting career and her new life as a member of the British royal family.
Britain’s The Sun says that many people in the industry were hoping for Meghan to show up, as it would have been a huge draw for the ceremony. Apparently, they also wanted Prince Harry to show up as Meghan’s ‘plus one,’ too.
One source close to the situation told the publication, “We had hoped Meghan would attend as a way of saying goodbye to her Suits fans and colleagues. Show executives and NBC had offered Harry and her an invitation to celebrate with the biggest stars around, meet her showbiz friends and even present an honor. But Meghan is not attending.”
Meghan said last year that she doesn’t feel as though she’s given up on her acting career. Instead, she just sees things as a new change in her life. Of course, at this point it’s safe to say that Meghan Markle has replaced her Hollywood lifestyle with her new royal one, instead.
Even though she’s managed to carve out a career for herself, it’s her romance with Prince Harry that has helped make her the household name that she is today.
Meghan still keeps in touch with her Suits co-stars and even invited them to her royal wedding at Windsor Castle back in May. And while she is still keeping in touch with them, she won’t be walking with them on the red carpet at next month’s Emmy Awards ceremony.
That portion of her life is done as these days her schedule if full of royal engagements and public appearances with Queen Elizabeth.
So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about Meghan Markle’s invitations to the Emmy Awards ceremony this year. In the meantime, don’t forget to check back with CDL for all the latest news and updates on Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the rest of the royal family right here.
