Street visited his mother in prison on tonight’s all-new episode of “S.W.A.T.” because she was finally getting out.
Street knew why his mother had gone to prison. Karen Street had planned and then followed through on killing his father after the abusive drunk pushed her too far. His dad started hitting her and refused to leave no matter how much she asked him. She had said she would call the cops and the man still hadn’t cared, so that’s when she decided to go ahead with her plan. She went into her son’s room and had told him that he should yell at his father. Something like calling him a coward! She told Street at the time that he didn’t need to worry because she was going to make sure he never hurt them again and so Street had done as she asked.
Street had yelled at his father and his father went to his room preparing to hurt him but Street’s mother had been hiding in the closet and she shot her husband when he came into range. Now, if Karen had shot him when he was hitting her then she could have claimed self-defense and so she made things worse for herself by arranging everything. She had gotten the gun to kill him and not just defend herself, she also used her son to lure her husband out and hadn’t handled things properly in the aftermath. She knew what she was doing was wrong indicating what she did was premeditated and Karen also had asked her son to lie for her.
Karen had tried to get away with murdering her husband and had gotten caught. Unfortunately, she still held some form of sway over her son and so she manipulated him into acting against his better judgment. She had wanted to see him because she hadn’t wanted to stay with strangers or work at a job the Parole Board had chosen for her. Karen said she wanted to stay with her son and somehow managed to convince him that would be a good idea. Street had told her he would talk to the board for her so that she could stay with him and then later he kicked out Luca. Luca had been sleeping on his sofa since breaking up with his girlfriend and so he wanted to know why Street wanted him out.
Street hadn’t wanted to say anything at first and so it wasn’t until he was pushed that he admitted his mother was going to need a place to stay. Luca could understand that Street was doing what he was doing because of family and so he dropped the matter with Street while mentioning it to Hondo. Hondo hadn’t thought the whole thing was a good idea. He heard the excuse that Karen gave to Street about how she hadn’t meant to accuse him of misconduct and that another prisoner had done it because they wanted to show off to Karen. Karen had gotten her son to buy that and Hondo remained skeptical.
Hondo had also made sure Street’s head was in the right place because Hondo needed the team to beat their best what with Irina Zemonva being in town. The writer was famous for going after men in power and oligarchs, so she made some very dangerous enemies. Irina did her best to uncover corruption and the men she went after was retaliating by trying to have her killed. Her security team was hit in several countries while she’s been on her latest book tour and Hondo had made a point of getting around her security team in LA just to show her that she wasn’t safe. The only way she was going to be safe in LA was if she agreed to accept help.
S.W.A.T. was willing to protect her. She just had to accept that help and so when she agreed to at listening to what Hondo had to say – he knew she was playing him. He had kept eyes on her on her even as she said she would stay in her hotel room and so he eventually caught Irina sneaking out. She was sneaking out to go meet with her source and had made it very far when gunmen started shooting her. They had managed to injure two bystanders and would have killed Irina if SWAT hadn’t shown up to save her.
Following that, Hondo had had enough. He told Irina he could hold her for twelve hours as a witness to a crime and brought her back to headquarters where he could keep an eye on no her. No, that she was grateful for it! Irina demanded to be let out and had tried everything she could to get out of there though she couldn’t change Hondo’s mind by demanding anything and so she chose to tell him why she needed to go back out. She said her source had something big. Irina explained that her source found out a huge cache of weapons were coming into the city and that the Russians were going to then hand them out for free wanting people to turn on each other. She said it would be like what happened in the Ukraine and Syria all over again.
Irina believed either the Russian government or rogue members of it had wanted to cause civil unrest and so Hondo took her findings to his superiors. He believed what Irina said was real and the truth of her case was bolstered when the men that tried to kill her were identified as former KGB agents. So Cortez brought in the CIA and together with SWAT they came up with a plan. They tricked the men that were after Irina into believing that her case was still being handled by the local police department and then they got Irina to her next book signing. She was supposed to meet with her source after the event and she almost hadn’t made it to that meeting.
The team found out the Russians were going to use a biological weapon hidden in a pen against Irina and so when that agent was about to be used on Irina – Chris jumped into the pathway of it and took the hit. She had gone down within seconds and the rest of her team captured the agent that stuck her with the pen but the team also quickly got their hands on the cure and so they saved Chris’s life. And they got Irina to that meeting.
Irina met her source and found out everything, so the CIA was able to stop the shipment of guns even if they hadn’t shared any of the credit!
At the end of the day, Street greeted his mother and took her home with him while his former roommate was found a place.
Luca didn’t like living alone and so his team found a way around that by also giving him a dog.
