It looks like the USA legal drama Suits will continue on without two of the show’s stars: Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams. New reports say that the series has just been renewed for an eighth season, despite losing two of its biggest names. Both Meghan and Patrick have been with the show since 2011.
Meghan played Rachel Zane, a former paralegal who was once engaged to Pearson Specter Litt’s junior partner, Mike Ross. The series also stars Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman and new series regular Dulé Hill.
Of course, Meghan’s fans know the reason why she left the show is because she is soon going to be a member of the British royal family. As Prince Harry’s new fiancé, there’s no way that she could continue her Hollywood career. Meghan was forced to choose between being an actress or being a future royal princess. Clearly, Meghan is now focuses on her new life in London and building her life with Prince Harry.
Patrick J. Adams, on the other hand, has made it no secret that he wants to move on to bigger and better projects. It’s safe to say that he knows people only started paying attention to Suits because of Meghan Markle. He played Mike Ross for more than 100 episodes and according to reports, is leaving on his own terms after season seven wraps up later this year.
As a matter of fact, Patrick told The Hollywood Reporter that he has been thinking about his departure for quite some time now. He recently told the publication, “After seven seasons — really, eight years of being away from home and away from my now-wife and there was that pressure. I started thinking about leaving at the end of the first half of season six, after Mike was released from prison. From a story point of view, I was a little unsure of what was left for him to do.”
Meanwhile, Meghan herself hasn’t made any comments or shared her thoughts about leaving the show. She’s already left Toronto for London and has been appearing at several royal engagements alongside Prince Harry.
The final eight episodes of Suits Season 7 will kick off on March 28 on the USA network. In the meantime, don’t forget to check back with CDL for all the latest news, updates and spoilers on Suits Season 8 and all of your favorite primetime television shows right here!
