The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers reveal that another cast member has been taken off contract. Jacob Young (Rick Forrester) has been bumped down to recurring on the CBS soap. This news comes after several other cast cuts at B&B, but it’s not surprising since Rick hasn’t been on screen much lately.
Money’s always tight on daytime dramas, so they have to use ‘em or lose ‘em. There’s no point in shelling out big bucks for a contract if you don’t intend to put the star in any major storylines. Of course, many Bold and the Beautiful fans would’ve preferred an actual story for Rick. B&B doesn’t have any huge plans for the character right now, so it makes sense that they put Young on recurring.
Unfortunately, The Bold and the Beautiful kind of wrote Rick into a corner. Any longtime soap watcher will tell you that a happy marriage is a ticket to the backburner. Young put in some great performances back when Maya (Karla Mosley) was revealed to be transgender. Rick decided he still wanted to be with Maya, so they married and had a baby via surrogate Nicole (Reign Edwards).
However, “Raya” storyline possibilities quickly dried up. B&B is drawn to love triangles and deep betrayal. That’s not the ideal route for Maya and Rick. Bradley Bell, The Bold and the Beautiful’s head writer and executive producer, was clear about portraying a story of devotion and acceptance. If Rick and Maya’s marriage fell apart, it would destroy the love story that came before it.
B&B seemingly toyed with the idea of cheating by inserting a pining Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) into the mix. However, it’s doubtful they really intended to go all the way with that. For whatever reason, the whole thing appears to have been abandoned. Perhaps The Bold and the Beautiful simply wanted to give the actors a little airtime and show that Maya was loyal.
We have to acknowledge the fact that the transgender storyline was a bit controversial. Some conservative viewers weren’t on board, so that may have been another factor in Rick’s trip to the backburner. Once Rick faded out with Maya, B&B may have moved forward with their recurring plans for Young.
The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers say Rick will continue to pop up here and there. They’re not getting rid of him entirely, but this is still a firing. Young no longer has stable employment with the CBS soap. Fortunately, Young has a music career on the side. He’s been devoting more time to that in recent months and other projects should be coming down the road.
