Director Campbell believed her former lover and asset Alex Hoffman to be dead because she had been the one to arrange his death.
The director had been approached nine years ago about Hoffman. He had been coloring outside of the lines and had become part of what they were supposed to be destroying though he didn’t have to go down alone. As the person that was in charge of him, Campbell had also been told that she was partly to blame for what he did. She should have seen what her asset was doing and have known that he was compromised without being told. So Campbell had to prove that she wasn’t dirty and her bosses thought the only way she could do so was to arrange Hoffman’s execution. She had been forced to call him and pretend that she was doing him a favor by warning him.
Campbell told him that Washington had figured out something was off and that they had shown up at their secret apartment in Vienna looking for him because they had questions. So she told him not to come back. Campbell said that it would best for him to lay low and then pretended like she had booked passage for him to get out of town under a pseudonym however it seems he had been on to her the whole time. Hoffman had known he was being set up and therefore he had gone to the car knowing it would explode. He just went along with it because he thought that at some point Campbell would try to warn him.
The two of them had long become more than colleagues and so tonight Hoffman admitted to Campbell that he thought she would at least try to actually warn him about the car bomb except she didn’t. She let him walk right to his supposed death and so he had been hurt by that betrayal. Hoffman wasn’t a pleasant guy and he liked to hold their past over Campbell’s head, but he cared about her and that’s why he kept lashing out. Hoffman had wanted to get angry at Campbell for caring when he was ops and not caring when it mattered meanwhile Campbell cared about the one real victim in this whole mess – Verina.
Verina was a sixteen-year-old girl that accidentally showed the world that she could hack a US nuclear carrying submarine. She hadn’t meant anything by it and because of that mistake she had lost her father and had to go on the run. So Captain Dalton and his team had hoped they’d be able to find her before their enemies did and unfortunately she had gotten snatched right under their noses. They had been so busy looking for clues to her whereabouts that when they realized they needed to look friends or allies she could reach out to – it had been too late. She had gotten picked up by the wrong people and they used her to hack another U.S. submarine.
Verina had hacked into the systems of the ‘Wyoming’ and was slowly navigating it into Chinese waters where the Chinese government no doubt waiting for “their” latest ship yet the team still had at least one thing useful. They had intel on their kidnappers! Hoffman claimed to have put a man named Victor in charge and so even if he called him to tell him to back down it wouldn’t matter only he knew Victor. Victor was egotistical and liked to believe he was a gentleman. So the team decided to use Jaz in an elaborate honey trap in which she pretended like she was also a Londoner and that she needed to be rescued from her abusive boyfriend.
The part of the abusive boyfriend went to McG. McG came strolling into the bar not long after Jaz and he got up in her face. He yelled at her for dressing too scantily dressed and had started man-handling her. Now there were naturally a couple of guys that wanted to intervene and they all minus one had back down once they took a look at McG. McG could frighten the other guys and he couldn’t frighten Victor. Victor had fought him and he thought he had even won when he got McG to leave the bar without the girl. So Jaz acted like a grateful beauty and she gave Victor a card with a phone number on it that was secretly a tracker.
Victor then went back to the warehouse where they were holding Verina and gave away his location. So it easy for the team to go in. They shut down all the lights to the building and had taken out the foot soldiers one by one until all they had left was Victor. Victor was just smart enough to realize that keeping Verina alive was how he stayed alive and so he happily handed over to the Americans in exchange for a lengthy prison sentence. And Verina was then able to reverse all that she did by guiding Noah through her process, so the team had thought that they had won and that they would take Hoffman back to the states.
However, Hoffman was never going back. He had tricked Dalton into arming his phone that turned it from a normal phone into an impact bomb and had then waited while Dalton’s team went to go rescue Verina back that meant it was just him, Campbell, and Preach. Preach had seen that Hoffman was trying to goad Campbell and it hadn’t known why until Hoffman flipped the table with his phone on it because that was when he realized Hoffman wanted to kill Campbell for betraying him. So Preach used his body to shield Campbell and sadly that left him in a coma on tonight’s all-new episode. And that made Dalton want to avenge him.
Dalton had gone off the grid in the hours that Preach and Campbell were taken to the hospital because he wanted to go after Hoffman on his own and he managed to kill the other man for what he did to Preach because his team was more than his colleagues – they were his family.
THE END!
