The rookies are at a block party to represent the precinct. Things are odd between John and Chen now that they have broken up. John notices one of the three kids he saw is missing. He walks along the side of a house and spots him in a pool. He jumps in, grabs him and brings him to the street. The paramedic Antonio that was just flirting with Chen performs CPR. The boy is okay.
John wakes up in his apartment and hears a noise. He comes out to the kitchen with his gun raised. It’s his friend and landlord back early from the business. Later at work, Bradford declares it’s T.O. competition time. They have a points system for felony arrests. The sergeant doesn’t want to know about it, he tells them. John finds out that Talia isn’t letting them compete. Meanwhile, Bradford sweet talks the dispatcher, giving her a book as a bribe, for the best calls.
Angela and Jackson make a house call to an elderly man who left the hospital early without being discharged. He tells them at his front door he is fine and just wanted to come home. Angela sense he is lying. They go around back and look into his French doors. He has opioids he stole from the hospital. They knock. He tells them it’s hard to live on a fixed income.
John is irritated and wants to play the roundup game. He spots a known felon and goes to bring him in but things go awry when the two fall off the side of a building. Luckily they fall right onto an air mattress. Talia is angry.
John and Talia go on a noise complaint. They find an older man with two women who they presume are hookers. They see a gun on the table and take him in.
Bradford and Chen go on a call. A man under the influence who has struck a kid, driven into a fence and is impaled in the driver seat. He is able to talk. They call the medics who free him. Bradford arrests him right after.
At the station, John finds it odd when a lawyer shows up for the man named Peter who was carrying without a permit. The man looks surprised and as if he doesn’t want to leave.
At lunch, Chen and John are still having a hard time being around another. Chen shares that Antonio called her. John is upset but keeps it to himself.
Chen and Bradford go on a call after dispatch calls them to give them help. They arrive at an armed robbery. The thieves locked themselves in the Brinks truck. Bradford smokes them out. That is 14 more points for them. Bradford is thrilled.
John and Talia get word that Peter was a mobster. They head out on a call and find a young mother with her toddler son at a shelter. They are no beds and the mother is upset. They work on finding her a bed at another shelter but don’t have any luck. Talia tells John this is why she doesn’t play the game because this isn’t a game.
Dispatch calls Talia and John for a reported home intruder. John notices it is the home of Peter. Dispatch cancels, the man was wrong. It was just a raccoon. John isn’t buying it. They head to the address. Bradford and Chen show up. They all head in and find a maid dead out back. Inside, Peter and his wife are tied up and being beaten on the coach. The four of them take them down.
Talia, Angela, and Chen talk in the locker room. Angela and Talia rig it each year so that Bradford wins. He used to play when his wife was sober and on the force. He feels close to her and they don’t want to take that away.
Bradford takes the dispatch lady out for a drink to say thanks. He tells her he is married, it’s complicated. She gets up and leaves.
Chen tells John that she told Antonio she cannot go out with him. She broke up with John to focus on her career. He tells her sorry, he feels like an idiot.
