The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Adam Newman (most recently played by Justin Hartley) will crash Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) wedding. Whether Adam will actually be seen during those dramatic scenes is a great question.
If Chelsea is being written out of the story, and she is, then how could the Adam character appear? Whoever would play the recast role would be returning to the storyline during the time when Egan’s character is departing. How will that seeming conflict be addressed?
As Y&R fans will see, Chelsea will propose to Nick as a way to deflect his suspicions regarding her recent actions. But that temporary reprieve won’t prevent Chick from cracking.
Both of his ex-wives have been working with Nick regarding the uncharacteristic actions of his significant other. Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) began to push hard after Sharon (Sharon Case) told her that Chelsea found stacks of cash inside the penthouse bathroom vents. Nick initially rejected Phyllis’ claim that Chelsea stole Chelsea 2.0 creations and established a phony website that served to defraud Fenmore’s.
However, Nick has since come around after catching Adam’s widow in a lie. He and Phyllis also visited Adam’s columbarium together.
For her part, Sharon advised Nick to trust his gut instincts where Chelsea was concerned. After being a Chelsea supporter, Sharon has also grown suspicious of that person’s demeanor. Seeing Nick’s girlfriend in the columbarium also created another reflection point.
Will fans feel rooked if Nick and Chelsea agree to marry, but then Chick’s wedding day doesn’t go as planned? This assumes all is revealed about the bride, which would include her latest scam and having withheld information about Christian’s (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) paternity.
Chelsea leaves Genoa City with Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois). Then they meet up with Adam, who obviously survived Chloe’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) cabin blast.
Executive producer and head writer Mal Young would really need to have guts to write Adam back into the show, but not actually show him. Yes, Chadam would reunite sans the recast.
That odd possibility actually seems more likely than the next Adam coming aboard. How would Young and his team bring that character back, while simultaneously writing out Chelsea? Might she be killed off, or believed dead?
Swapping one open-ended storyline for another would assuredly result in a degree of fan backlash, even if Michael Muhney has been hired to play Adam again. That actor has been off social media for more than two months, which is completely unlike him. On October 25, 2017, Muhney advised his followers that he began watching Y&R again (after not doing so for a few years). His last post was seen on November 23.
Egan will bow as Chelsea very soon. Chick will be finished by then. But will Young address Adam’s looming absence and if so, how will that be done? CDL is a leading source for everything linked to The Young and the Restless. Check back regularly for Y&R spoilers and news!
