The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Adam Newman (most recently played by Justin Hartley) is primed to rescue Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois), not Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) and then leave town with most of his family. Of course, Y&R will need to write this seemingly undead character back to life in order this plot point to play out. But that’s an easy fix in this soapy world.
As viewers know, the walls continue to close in on Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Most recently, she felt compelled to tell Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) that Nick (Joshua Morrow) wasn’t Christian’s biological father. That news stopped Phyllis in her tracks, as she was preparing to tell her former husband that Chelsea was, in fact, the scammer who stole money from Fenmore’s.
Adam was written out of the story in September 2016. Hartley had previously announced his voluntary departure, which resulted in his joining the now-breakout prime time NBC hit This Is Us.
Y&R opted to kill Adam off, rather than recast him. The choice was interesting because of the previous Muhney controversy.
Muhney involuntarily exited the cast in December 2013. Then-executive producer Jill Farren Phelps decided, as later affirmed by Muhney, that the actor’s on-set ego was too abrasive. Y&R seemingly opted to remain coy about Muhney’s departure in order to avoid publicly bad-mouthing him.
However, Y&R’s mute approach spurred countless anonymous, reckless rumors that attempted to peg the actor as having done something far worse then pop off to his cast mates. Muhney persisted via social media and was vindicated, as all rational minds agreed, when he was interviewed to be rehired by Y&R in the summer of 2014. Hartley won that casting call, but allowing Muhney to merely interview proved he was eligible for rehire and therefore had done nothing which would have crossed any moral, or ethical line.
Muhney’s two-plus month social media absence was recently broken when he offered a Valentine’s Day message for his fans. No words were typed regarding a return to Y&R other than thanking fans for supporting his potential return. However, hopeful speculation also wasn’t dashed.
Obviously, Adam can return without Muhney embodying the role. Hartley himself could make a cameo. When savvy fans consider that option, it might make the most sense.
Since Egan announced her voluntary departure, viewers know that Chelsea is about to exit Genoa City. Logically, if Hartley has secretly recorded scenes, a brief Adam reprisal would fit perfectly with the current storyline.
Chelsea is running from the authorities when she learns that Adam never died. He meets his wife and Connor at the clandestine tarmac where this threesome was set to meet in 2016. Together, they fly away from GC.
But how could Adam leave his other son, Christian, behind? Well, that would establish an eventual return scenario. CDL is a leading source for everything linked to The Young and the Restless. Check back regularly for Y&R spoilers and news!
