The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) will be served with legal papers from Mackenzie (last played by Clementine Ford). In addition to divorce, she’ll also want custody of their two children. That development turns the tables on a similar situation Vickie (Amelia Heinle) faced in 2010.
Timing is a factor in life. The position one puts oneself into affords options that can be taken if possible.
Years ago, in both soap and real time, Luckinbill was exiting Y&R. So J.T. was written out to Washington D.C. along with Mackenzie. At that time he sought and won full custody of Reed (then played by Max Page). J.T.’s legal emphasis involved Vickie being an unsuitable parent, as she was facing criminal charges that involved the Newman family.
J.T. recently acknowledged in front of Vickie and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) that he was mistaken about his ex-wife’s parental abilities. The separation from his current wife surely helped to form that perspective.
Reed (now played by Tristan Lake Leabu) recently got into legal trouble. He was driving under the influence when his girlfriend, Mattie (Lexie Stevenson), reported him to the Genoa City Police Department.
The seriousness of Reed’s actions combined with the seeming end of JMack caused J.T. to remain in town for the time being. As a side note, Luckinbill has advised that he will be part of the cast until at least February, or March, unless his character’s storyline goes beyond that point. That implies the actor is open to staying, doesn’t want to reveal the arc’s length or both.
Meanwhile, after sporadically pursuing Billy (Jason Thompson) throughout parts of 2017, Vickie finally acknowledged the truth. Her other ex-husband made his choice, he’s with Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) now.
Vickie’s response to J.T. and that one-time couple’s potential for future chemistry clearly indicates that J.T.V. could reform. This is the soap world, so the process will naturally take awhile. However, Vickie and Y&R’s audience see that this opportunity exists. Here’s hoping that both parties seriously explore it.
Separate from fiction is the intriguing off-screen aspect of Heinle’s past relationship with Luckinbill. Savvy soap fans know that both actors were married for an extended period and have children.
Their unexpected divorce announcement last year obviously didn’t affect Luckinbill’s decision to rejoin Y&R, or Heinle’s professionalism. Heinle tweeted her support for Luckinbill upon the public announcement of his return.
Considering the children they share in real life, it would be nice to see Heinle and Luckinbill revive their own marriage, if possible. For now, Y&R fans can follow each actor’s alter ego for on-screen romantic developments. CDL is a leading source for everything linked to The Young and the Restless.
