The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease some potential casting excitement involving a true soap veteran! There’s been some huge news buzzing in the soap world that involves Jacob Young’s role as Rick on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Young went off contract earlier this year, so Rick’s been out of the picture for a while. Rick’s wife, Maya (Karla Mosley), recently stepped away from B&B for her maternity leave, but now she’s back with a divorce bombshell.
This is a big deal because The Bold and the Beautiful really developed this love story. They took time to make it a tale of connection and acceptance. After Maya was revealed as transgender, Rick assured her that he still wanted to be with her. They were married and had a child via Maya’s surrogate sister, so B&B went all in on this.
Now Rick and Maya have grown apart off screen. Their divorce is already in progress, so Young wasn’t too happy about how all that was handled. He retweeted several tweets that disapproved of the split.
It sounds like Young was hoping he could come back and play Rick or at least pop up to give this love story the proper closure. Instead, we’re seeing everything strictly from Maya’s point of view.
On the bright side, B&B’s blunder has stirred up some interest in Young and his possible return to soaps. Young himself is fueling the buzz thanks to tweets and retweets about a potential comeback at General Hospital or a role at The Young and the Restless. Days of Our Lives doesn’t seem to be on his radar at the moment, but you never know. Any daytime drama could be an option right now.
In an interview with ABC Soaps in Depth, Young discussed the possibility of a GH return. He played Lucky from 2000-2003 and the character was recently mentioned on screen. Lucky’s son, Aiden (Jason David), is going through a rough time due to bullying at school. It’d be a good time for Lucky to come home and get involved.
“Lucky was a really special time and of course, I won the Emmy for that role, so that’s always gonna stick out in my mind,” Young said. “If B&B doesn’t have any stories for me to play and GH does, then I am more than willing to.” Even if General Hospital wraps up the bullying story, there would surely be other hot plots for Lucky to get involved in.
Young is also interested in joining the cast of Y&R. Now that Mal Young is out as the show’s head writer and executive producer, a new team is taking over and Young thinks it’s the ideal time to jump in.
He tweeted, “Just heard the great news, the dynamic duo Tony Morina and Josh Griffith are steering the @youngrestlescbs ship! Now THIS is a team I could see myself working with! What’s your thoughts?”
By trying to generate excitement among fans, Young is clearly hoping a job opportunity will float his way. Some of The Young and the Restless viewers have even suggested Young as a potential Adam Newman recast, which would certainly be a newsworthy decision. Young may not be the right fit for the role, but the show could take the character in a new direction.
