The Young and the Restless spoilers documents all things Michael Muhney. The fabled daytime actor broke his nearly three month social media this week and directly addressed rumors of his return to Y&R as Adam.
“Hey! Happy Valentine’s you Knuckleheads! Today’s a day of Love…wanted to let ya’ll know how much I love your support and encouragement, whether it be most of you cheering for a Y&R return or just cheering me on in general. Keep using Twitter as a place to lift each other up! Hashtag, Love,” Muhney wrote.
Everyone will interpret Muhney’s words based upon their hopes, or considered belief. All reactions will represent opinions. Those takes are welcomed by this scribe as long as they don’t unjustly condemn Y&R, any actor connected to the show or soap opera fans. Human beings work for this soap opera. They are not fictional characters.
The supporters, who Muhney referenced, may choose to believe that his return to social media also means that he’s about to reprise his role as Adam Newman.
Other fans could also logically conclude that he hasn’t yet been rehired. Writing about fans cheering for his Y&R return, could be seen as him not being a member of the cast now. Surprise returns, as this one would certainly be, generally are kept top secret, unless this is a planned method to stoke his audience and the soap world in general.
Muhney’s absence from the public square was noteworthy, as he’s long been social media savvy. His words about Twitter, being used to lift people up, are particularly important. Social media’s anonymity has enabled vicious attacks on many people, public figures or not through the years.
This actor, in particular, bore the brunt of eventually revealed slander regarding the reason for his removal from Y&R’s cast in December 2013. Muhney acknowledged that his ego, not anything else, cost him his job. He subsequently was considered for rehire in the summer of 2014, which verified that he obviously had done nothing that would have made him ineligible to rejoin the cast. That important point remains true today.
Regarding the current storyline, Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea) recently announced her voluntary departure from Y&R. Again, interpretation can be imposed in this regard. Will Chelsea’s exit coincide with Adam’s return? Months of Adam teases may have been used to write out Chelsea, rather than to resurrect Adam.
With whatever proves true, soap fans of goodwill wish TPTB at Y&R and all actors associated with this show, both past and present, well. The talent of all involved individuals creates the unique escapist fantasy that has allowed this particular show to establish and maintain its high mark in daytime.
