The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) will soon be faced with a far greater dilemma than trying to help Billy (Jason Thompson) overcome his most recent fallback into gambling. The staggering reveal about Summer (Hunter King) will push Phyllis to seek comfort in familiar arms. But whose limbs will they be?
Jack (Peter Bergman) is available. Nick (Joshua Morrow) isn’t. But Phyllis didn’t have a one-off for old times sake with Mr. Abbott, or whatever his last name is. No, she shimmied on Butcher Block Island with Nick and is now keeping that secret.
It’s at least possible that Sharon (Sharon Case) will kick Nick out on his patoot the day she learns about Phick’s horizontal redux. But Y&R might withhold that option for months, say until Shick’s wedding day arrives. Yes, that would kick the gut of every fan who has been patiently waiting since 2014, when Shick was almost remarried.
Devoted Y&R fans, who also loved Shick, still detest the decision to kill Cassie (Camryn Grimes) off. That led to Phyllis (as then played by Michelle Stafford) having an affair with Nick, which led to the end of his marriage. That happened more than a decade ago in both real and soap time. In daytime chronology, that’s forever.
Phyllis stopped Shick’s wedding four years ago for a legitimate reason. Sharon had been lying about Summer’s paternity, claiming that Jack sired the then-Snowflake, who’s become a big troublemaker. This time around, Summer is again at the center of controversy, but she’s half the cause of it.
Billy made a mistake in not immediately telling Phyllis that he daughter was coming onto him. Summer would have denied the claim and tried to turn it around on Billy. But Phyllis is sharp and has experience with that morally bankrupt, me-first lifestyle herself. So, she would have at least had her antennae raised, which likely would have prevented the now real potential of Silly actually forming.
Jack has been written toward Phyllis a handful of times in recent weeks. He’s clearly an option if Philly fails, as is expected.
To give her some credit, Summer did say that Phyllis threw Jack away for no good reason. However, Summer’s lustful scheme, that also purposely poked Billy’s Poker buttons, was just plain wrong. This was not the way to go about repairing her mom with Jack.
Phyllis will likely soon have a choice to make. Tognoni’s version of this classic character is presented differently than Stafford’s was. So there’s no telling how Phyllis will react, or who she may couple with next. Yes, as has always been true, Phyllis is good soap.
