The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) will be reborn as a married couple this year and will be back together during February sweeps. Let the cheers commence, while other hands are thrown in the air.
Putting one’s finger in the soapy air results in certain fictional matters being assessed. First, Sharon is single. That achievement allows one half of Shick to be prepared for revival. Second, Chick’s relationship egg is cracking. It’s break will allow Nick to be alone and therefore, vulnerable.
As longtime Y&R fans know, Nick’s abandonment of Sharon caused Shick to die after Cassie (Camry Grimes) did in 2005. That decision arguably ranks with the most controversial creative choices in modern Genoa City history.
Neither Case, nor Morrow were set to leave the cast at the time and haven’t since. So a write-away of that couple wasn’t necessary. Instead, that purposeful decision changed Y&R’s trajectory in many significant ways.
Over time a contingent of Sharon detractors grew. They wanted Nick to stay away from that ‘crazy lady’, which revealed a true lack of compassion for her bi-polar medical condition.
Some, who are Sharon supporters, want her to remain alone. Citing a belief that she doesn’t need a guy in her life. One wonders if said advice givers are alone themselves, think they see this character’s limitations or simply don’t want to see Sharon hurt again. In any regard, those groups apparently want to deny Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) the benefit of a two-parent family. Again, that may reflect one’s chosen view of the world, rather than what’s good for Sharon.
There are also others who have been unwilling to give Nick a second chance after the Phyllis (first played by Michelle Stafford and now, Gina Tognoni) debacle. Their views were often underscored by biting comments about the former Red and Phick’s child, Summer (Hunter King).
Separately, it’s true that Nick acted to protect Sharon. Some see that as a negative issue. But Sharon, like most people, has occasionally needed help at different points in her life.
Sharon and Nick were also, arguably, never as happy as when they were together. And love is the actual subjective point in this entire story.
Love drew Sharon and Nick back together in the mid-part of the current decade. Phyllis’ awakening from a coma and recast was the factor that stopped Shick from reforming in 2014. Y&R’s revival tease could be tagged as cruel treatment of all Shick fan group members as well.
Considering current events, Sharon is doing just fine after having kicked Scott (Daniel Hall) out of her life. Nick will seemingly learn of Christian’s (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) true paternity and Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) knowledge of said incredible truth, that Adam (last played by Justin Hartley) is that boy’s biological father, in the near future. Sharon’s ex-husband will then be reeling.
GC devotees know that Sharon and Nick are in a good place with each other right now. Nick recently alerted his ex-wife to Scott’s deception. Sharon will surely be there for her ex-husband when his heart needs mending.
All who recognize that each person is only an expert on herself, or himself are open to this former couple reviving. This personality type knows that what matters most is what Sharon and Nick will want, not what others want for them. So why not believe in love and thus, Shick’s rebirth?
