The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that a major mystery will unravel this month. Before November concludes, Y&R will fill us in on the blackmailer’s identity. Fans have had fun bouncing ideas around on social media. However, a new clue has surfaced and it points to someone pretty surprising.
Although nothing’s been confirmed yet, there’s a theory that must be explored. Thursday’s episode brings a bizarre interaction and it’s worth looking into. When characters who don’t normally talk are thrown together, there tends to be a good reason why.
That brings us to Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Esther’s (Kate Linder) seemingly random chat. Is it really so random? Y&R may have just needed a way to include Esther for the day, but why have her speak with Mariah? There are dozens of other people Esther could’ve chatted with instead.
Let’s dive a bit deeper and examine the conversation itself. For starters, Esther gushes about Mariah’s latest GC Buzz report. That tells us she’s keeping a close eye on that crime scene coverage. Next, Esther suggests Mariah interview her to talk about Chancellor Park and her memories of Katherine (Jeanne Cooper). She’s determined to help everyone remember the incredible Mrs. C.
Esther adds, “…I want to make sure that she gets all the honor and respect she deserves.” We’re all for celebrating Katherine’s Genoa City contributions, but what exactly is the point of this? It’s possible Esther somehow became privy to the park becoming a burial site. Did she orchestrate a plot to teach the cover-up crew a lesson? Y&R may be dropping some huge hints.
After all, we’re talking about CHANCELLOR Park here. A sculpture to honor Katherine was directly over where J.T.’s (Thad Luckinbill) corpse was buried. Mal Young, Y&R’s head writer and executive producer, always wants fans to say, “I didn’t see that coming.” That’s his big motto. Who would be more unexpected than Esther?
Esther certainly got her knickers in a knot over Kyle (Michael Mealor) and his gravedigging fiasco. She doesn’t mess around when it comes to the Chancellors and their legacy! It’s not completely crazy to think Esther would retaliate against the cover-up crew. She may not know everything, but she could know enough to blackmail them.
Now let’s circle back to Mariah’s involvement. She’s in the dark on the real story of girls’ night, but she’s closely connected to it. Plus, there’s a moment on the Thursday, November 8, Y&R episode where Mariah asks if Esther and Tessa (Cait Faibanks) have met. Esther assures Mariah that Tessa always has her afternoon latte waiting. Tessa later gives it to Esther on the house. Since when did these two become so chummy?
The Young and the Restless could’ve easily had this conversation take place in the park, where Mariah corners Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott). Instead, they had it happen at Crimson Lights…with Tessa. That could be suspicious.
Next week, Tessa will get caught with plenty of cash in her mattress. Is it hers or is she hiding it for someone else – maybe someone old school who asked her to stash it there? Esther’s from the era where that would typically be done. She might’ve roped the barista into something in exchange for a cut of the money.
On the surface, it’s wild to think Esther could be behind a scheme like this. Nevertheless, we have to remember Y&R’s not quite the same these days. The Young and the Restless tends to favor plot above all else, so characters don’t always behave how we expect them to or how their characters, developed over years, would indicate they would act.
Nick scared the crap out of Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Sharon (Sharon Case) in a J.T. mask. Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) forgave Summer (Hunter King) for sleeping with Billy (Jason Thompson) on the spot. Ashley (Eileen Davidson) deceived Jack (Peter Bergman) about his paternity and nearly let her brother spiral to his breaking point.
With all that in mind, Esther is definitely a blackmailer possibility. Do you think Esther pulled it off? Did she have a little help from Tessa?
