The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that fans are still anxious to have a fan favorite back on canvas. Adam Newman was a popular character back when Michael Muhney portrayed him, but he was fired thanks to some controversies behind the scenes. Many Y&R viewers were sad to see Muhney go, but Justin Hartley was quickly accepted as a recast.
However, Hartley ultimately left to pursue primetime opportunities and it worked out well for him. He’s got a role on NBC’s This Is Us and has no interest in a Y&R comeback. Muhney, on the other hand, would love to reprise the role of Adam. It seems many fans would love that, too!
Daytime Confidential tracks the top 20 soap stars on their website each month and the numbers are in for March 2018. Michael Muhney is ranked third on this list, so that’s a pretty big deal. This guy’s been gone for over four years and people are still talking about him. That says a lot about want Young and the Restless watchers want to see.
It’s also worth mentioning that Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) comes in at number one. Fans would certainly like to see Victor and Adam in another story together. It’d be fun to see that power struggle resume. Nevertheless, we can’t ignore a major snag. As great as it’d be to have Adam back on canvas, the fact that Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) gone could be an issue.
The Young and the Restless indicated that they wanted to leave the door open for Egan’s potential return. That’s probably for the best. If Egan doesn’t find the roles she wants elsewhere, she could easily come back to Genoa City.
However, that doesn’t mean Adam can’t come home alone. It would actually be a gripping story for Adam to return from the dead and find that his true love is missing. Adam could search for Chelsea and Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois), but he might fail miserably. That could leave him longing for Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) and set up a fierce custody battle with Nick (Joshua Morrow).
If Adam’s back in the picture, that could be an incentive for Egan to return as well. She might decide she’s on board for being front and center again. People love “Chadam,” so Egan and Muhney would definitely be featured all the time.
Of course, we should also point out that Adam had plastic surgery to look like Gabriel Bingham. If we were Y&R, we’d just ignore that! There’s no need to explain how Adam reverted to his old look. Just stick Muhney back in there and treat him like any other recast. Since people are clamoring for Adam’s comeback, they won’t care if the shows glosses over it.
