Jenna introduces the judges. First up to take the stage, a married ballroom couple who call themselves DNA. They are returning for the second time after the husband fell during their first time taking the stage. They make a grand entrance and bring a great performance. JLo loves how they made their comeback. Derek loves how they rose to the occasion. Their articulation and technique was stunning. They score an 87.7, making it to the duals.
The Brotherhood is a hip-hop group from Canada. Jenna talks to them. They plan to step it up by incorporating themes. They started out together 7 years ago in the basement of a church. They take the stage dresses in red and black. Derek thinks they danced clean and in sync. JLo needed more dirtiness and grit. Ne-Yo agrees. They score an 80.3 making it to the duals.
Vivian, a 16-year-old performs contemporary. She has had a tough year after breaking up with her boyfriend. She takes the stage and begins her dance. The audience loves it. They applaud when she finishes. The judges love it and think she danced beautifully. She scores an 83.3.
The Untouchables take the stage next. Dressed in bright yellow and green, they put on a lively performance that gets the audience going. JLo loves their attire. Derek thinks it is great that they came back this year stronger than ever after some of the group tried out last year. They score an 88.7. They are headed to the duels.
A male trio takes the stage. They dance with black top hats to a song about love. They get plenty of cheers and a round of applause at the end. Derek calls it a hip-hop/Bonneville routine. Ne-Yo thinks it took too long to get to the dancing. JLo was also waiting for them to get to another level. They score a 79.0, failing to make it to the duels.
Up next is Ashley and Zach, a contemporary duo from LA. They are professional dancers. They have both danced for superstars. The judges are impressed. Ne-Yo wants to know if they are a real couple. They are not. He loved that they were sensual and not raunchy. JLo thought they had great precision. She didn’t like the song choice. But they did a good job. Derek loved their emotion. He thinks they did a great job. They score 85.
A group of young girls and boys have banded together to dance for their home in Vegas, the Mandalay Bay tragedy. Their message is about hope and kindness. The Rock Company takes the stage. They dance to a female rendition of John Lennon’s Live as One. At the end they cry. JLo runs on stage and hugs them. She loved it. It was beautiful. Derek thought it was full of emotion. Ne-Yo also loved it. They score 96.7. They jump up and down and cry. They are headed to the duels.
