Six foreigners gave up everything for love. It hasn’t always been easy and sometimes their partners haven’t always been nice, but these six did take a chance and now look what that’s done for them. Jay was a Jamaican young man who left his island to marry Ashley and they were happy at first. Then they received negative feedback from Ashley’s friends and loved ones. She was warned about marrying him because everyone said he was a player an Ashley ignored them. She said that they didn’t get her relationship with Jay and that her fiancée had promised that part of his life was over. He must have been convincing because they got married and it wasn’t until they were honeymooning that Ashley noticed that maybe Jay didn’t change as much as she thought.
Jay was younger than her and he has a very active sex drive. He even complained to his wife when they were poolside that a man deserves sex and that’s why he cheats if he’s not getting it enough at home. Jay may or may nor have meant what he said, but he sure lived it up to it when Ashley later learned that he began texting women the second they came back from their honeymoon. He was telling these women how he couldn’t wait to be with them and he invited one over to have sex in his wife’s bed. He didn’t go through with this plan because Ashley had found out about the messages by then and she raised holy hell. She was engaged twice before and both relationships failed because of cheating.
Ashley admits she was damaged when she met Jay and she wanted him to be different, but he didn’t wait to show his true colors and so now Ashley doesn’t know if she wants to work on their relationship. She says she needs time. Ashley said that if Jay was from America then he would be sleeping on his mom’s coach and it was because he couldn’t travel that made her hesitant to throw him out. Jay could risk being deported if he leaves the country and he doesn’t really know anyone up here. It’s not like he can stay with friends and so he’s constantly around Ashely while she’s trying to decide if she’s willing to forgive or not. She doesn’t know what was best for them in the long run and so she hasn’t left her lashing out stage. She got fed up one second and demanded he walks his way home because she didn’t want to see him.
Then there was Chantel and Pedro. Pedro was from the Dominican Republic and he met Chantel through a mutual friend that set them up. Neither of them thought it would be serious, but over time they said they fell in love and so they got married. There was just one problem in their fairytale and that was her family. Her family was the ones that first raised questions about Pedro because they weren’t sure he wasn’t just using their daughter. Only there was a right way to go about things and Chantel’s family didn’t do it. They went to the Dominican Republic with doubts and got into his family’s faces. They might not have meant it but they offend Pedro and his mother. His mother later met with Chantel to clear the air and it went left quickly.
Pedro’s mother thought if Chantel couldn’t trust her husband then they should get divorced, but Pedro’s sister was the one that went off on Chantel for no good reason and suddenly Chantel also had to deal with hostile in-laws. Her sis-in-law especially took things too far. She was insulting and she took out whatever Chantel’s family did to Pedro was Chantel’s fault. It got worse when the sister came to visit them in the states. She continued to badmouth Chantel and this time in Chantel’s own house. So Chantel turned to her family. She told them what was happening and they felt so bad for her that they thought there was something with the sister. They made suggestions and innuendos. And it led to the fight.
Chantel brought Pedro and his sister to a family dinner with her family and once Pedro tried to get in the middle of Chantel and his sister’s fight – it set off her family. They didn’t like Pedro telling her what to do even if it was under the best circumstances and so they got in Pedro’s face. Pedro then got up and attacked her brother who also got up. The two of them got into a fight with his sister taking his side and Chantel’s family taking her brother’s side. Since the fight, Pedro has wanted nothing to do with Chantel’s family and so he wants to move. He wants to move to Savanah which reminds him of home and he doesn’t quite grasp or at least wants to grasp what this move would mean to Chantel.
Chantel doesn’t know if she could transfer credits of risking fall back with her program and she also doesn’t want to leave her family behind. She still loves them and she wants to see that Pedro is willing to work with them, but right now he’s ruling them out entirely and Chantel doesn’t know what that means. She’s been married to Pedro for almost three years and she thought she would have a baby by now, but how can she bring a child into this current situation. Chantel told Pedro that she doesn’t want to have to explain to their child that daddy hates grandma. Not when she’s going to need her mother and so she tried to talk to Pedro about it. She tried to tell him that fight was also his fault and he didn’t like that.
They got into an argument about it and he said that he didn’t want to leave his life in Atlanta behind. He was only doing it to get away from her family and he says it was worth it, but he doesn’t believe he was to blame for the fight even if he was the one that got up first and he claims that Chantel offends him because she would rather blame him than acknowledged what her family or she did. This couple is unsure if they have a future and they also keep pushing the topic far away. Chantel doesn’t wasn’t to talk about where they go from here and it leads to them having the same argument time and time again. And so maybe their 90 days hadn’t been enough time for them to decide on something so big as marriage.
Another couple that was struggling was Colt and Larissa. Larissa was an argumentative beauty from Brazil and she moved to the states for Colt. Colt lives with his mother Debbie and Debbie did everything for him. He didn’t have to cook or clean and he shares a bank account with his mother. Debbie panders her son and so it wasn’t a surprise when she butts heads with Larissa. Larissa wanted to live away from her and she also wanted a new car as well as her own wedding dress. She got none of it and she had to deal with Colt’s relatives. His family didn’t like her because they said she was only in it for the green card and so that gave them the excuse to become overly involved. The couple still got married though and for a while they were happy.
Until that all change when the case against her started to move forward. Larissa was arrested a few days before the wedding after she got into a fight with Colt. Colt said that he called “911” as a mistake and that he didn’t mean for her to get arrested but she knows now that he was lying. He called the cops and told them that she threatened him and lunged at him. He claimed that he didn’t know what she was going to do and that’s why she charged as a domestic abuser. Larissa didn’t know he had said all of that until she met with her lawyer and he informed her what the police arrested said. It was then she realized that Colt (Colt-e as she calls him) was a liar and she suspects he called the police because as a way to threaten her.
It was a few days before the wedding and Colt told her he wasn’t sure if he wanted to get married. He accused her of being toxic and so she lashed out. Larissa said she yelled at him and that she may have grabbed him, but she told her lawyer that she didn’t lunge at him and that he called the police to sure her that he could. At this point, it doesn’t even matter who was lying. They were both toxic to each other. They still live together because neither wants to make a big move prior to trial and their house has taken on the toxicity. Also, Debbie doesn’t help. She thinks everything is Larissa’s fault and that Colt’s life is ruined because he married her. And, well, even people that don’t like Larissa find themselves saying who’s looking out for her and why can’t Debbie get her own life.
Luckily, not every relationship was doom and gloom. Russ and Paola were still together and they’ve been married now for five years. They met when Russ was working in Colombia and they didn’t want the relationship to end when he returned to the states. This couple has been off and on in the past because they disagree on almost everything and then they got pregnant. The pregnancy brought them together and unfortunately, they went through a miscarriage. It had caused a lot of strain on the relationship and it didn’t seem like they were going to make it. So things were much better now that they were pregnant again. They were in the middle of their first pregnancy and Russ wanted more than anything to bring both sides of his family together.
His family in Oklahoma hadn’t approved of Paola. Paola said that she never felt welcome when she was there and that moving to Miami had helped her. She found a community, started working, and she made friends. Russ followed her even though at the time it hadn’t been plausible because he didn’t have a job and Miami was more expensive. Only he did it anyway because he loved Paola. Paola hasn’t been back to Oklahoma since and Russ’s mother wanted to throw the couple a baby shower. Russ mentioned how he’s been to visit and she hasn’t. So he told her his family wanted to see her again. Paola doesn’t really believe that if she goes back that will be any changes and so she didn’t want the baby shower. And she didn’t know how to tell Russ.
They were wrapped up in picking names for their son because they know they’re having a boy and Paola didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere. She ended up going to her friends to discuss her feelings and they weren’t sure. They wanted Paola to be accepted wherever she went and if she didn’t think she was going to get that with Russ’s family then maybe she shouldn’t go back, but at the same time she was having Russ’s baby and it was important to Russ that she tries. She could give his family another shot and if things hadn’t changed when she didn’t have to see them ever again. Paola was the one having the baby and she had to decide what was best for her. She also needed to talk to her husband more because the last time they let communication slide it had almost ended their marriage.
Elizabeth and Andrei were other couples about to have their first child. Its been a rough go for them because Andrei doesn’t like how involved her family is. Elizabeth is the youngest child in her family and she has these older brothers and sisters that are concerned for her because they’ve noticed Andrei’s has traditional views on gender roles. He’s from Moldova and he was older than Elizabeth, but they’re having a baby now and so that’s changed things. The family wants to be active in her pregnancy and they want to know she’s okay. They’ve been helping out and they were now living in a rental that Elizabeth’s father purchased for them. Andrei hated that he had to accept a house from his father-in-law and he made Elizabeth question if there were strings attached because that’s how his mind works.
Andrei doesn’t think they’ll get something for nothing and it has Elizabeth doubting her relatives. She’s not sure if her father is going to hold the house over her head and she didn’t hide it from her family when she later told them that Andrei would like some distance. He doesn’t want them in the delivery room and he doesn’t want their opinions on his marriage to Elizabeth. Elizabeth tried to break the news to her sisters and it hadn’t gone over too well. Her sisters were excited about the baby and they did want all the details. They didn’t know why Andrei was acting the way he is and they told Elizabeth that it was judgmental of him. Andrei didn’t have a job and he was about to have a baby. Babies are incredibly expensive and Elizabeth was going to need her family assistance when it comes to the child. And so it was best for Andrei to make peace now while he still can.
Now, a relationship that in truth never had any truly good moments was Nicole and Azan. Azan was from Morocco and he met Nicole on social media. They began talking and she came out to visit him, but she learned right off that his culture was very different from her own. She thought she could hug him and kiss him in public and she couldn’t. It wasn’t considered proper in Morocco. Nicole said she understands and she had shown some signs of jealousy when her small daughter could hug Azan and she couldn’t. There was also the issue with Azan. Azan thought she was too fat in the beginning and he tried to put her on the diet. She wouldn’t follow the rules of that diet and so it led to another fight with Azan.
Azan still proposed to her despite it all and Nicole went back to the states where she applied for the K1 visa, but their visa kept getting denied. Azan was talking to a bunch of women online and Nicole soon heard about it. She called up to confront him and he made his excuses about how it didn’t mean anything except it did. Nicole still flew out to Morocco and she planned on living there with her daughter so that she and Azan could get married. But Azan expressed misgivings about marriage. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to get married and so he postponed the wedding because he told Nicole that he wanted to save up some money. They later had to postpone the second wedding as well because they didn’t have all the proper paperwork.
They seemingly postponed the wedding indefinitely when Azan said he wanted open his own beauty supply store. He claimed that he wanted to set up a future for his family with Nicole and he convinced her to hand over six thousand dollars, but Nicole is living in the states now and she was couch-surfing between her siblings because Azan never opened that store. It also wasn’t clear what he did with her money and so Nicole didn’t want to tell anyone. She said she didn’t want to catch any grief from her family who would have questions and so Nicole blames everything on being denied the K1. She thought things would have been different if Azan could have come over and that they would have been married now.
And, frankly, all of America wants to tell her to toss Azan to the side because she needed to focus on providing a home for her little girl.
THE END!
