Two more people are in danger unless the judges use their one save, and it expires tonight. Two themes tonight, show stoppers and Woodstock.
Kicking off the show is Madison Vandenburg singing, “Piece of My Heart,” by Janice Joplin. Judges Comments: Katy: “Oh my gosh, you flung your pony. You are not a stereotypical rock star, you play guitar, I am so glad you brought it back out. I don’t want you to be second, I want you to win this thing. Keep showing your teeth.” Luke: “I loved the flung the pony. Madison, you are sweet and timid, rocking a guitar in a jumpsuit. You are doing what we ask you every week, you are digging deeper, great job.” Lionel: “I think you made clear to all of us, you are not just a pretty face. You brought star attitude and I am loving it, Congratulations.”
Laine Hardy singing, “I Don’t Need No Doctor,” by Joe Cocker. Judges Comments: Luke: “Laine, you continue week after week to pick the right songs for you. Last year you didn’t have that sweet spot, this year you pick songs that compliment what you are about.” Lionel: “I am laughing at you, I love your jackets. I really appreciate that you are taking it to the core of who you are. It is so strong to connect your identity to that voice of yours.” Katy: I think you figured this chess game out. Now is the time to scare yourself. Push yourself past that point where you think you cannot go.”
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon singing, “Sing Low, Sweet Chariot,” by Joan Baez. Judges Comments: Lionel: “You are back! Your vocals are absolutely amazing, I don’t even know what the top of your range is.” Katy: “I mean, you may have taken a pause from the church, but the church is in you. It was really good. Thank you for showing off again, showing off all those notes. You were born the same day as John Lennon, October 9th.” Luke: “I think that was one of your most solid performance so far. Just when I wanted you to get off from the piano you did. It was a professional performance, you knocked it out of the park.”
Laci Kaye Booth singing, “To Love Somebody,” by Janice Joplin. Judges Comments: Katy: “Bigger the hair, closer to God. Your voice is so spectacular, it reminds me of a Bonnie Raitt. I just think you are full on the superstar. It is going to get tight with this show, I need to see you move more.” Luke: “I was most impressed by that performance, your voice can get buried because it is so smokey, but you commanded our attention with your voice. Always put your voice out there as you did on that song. The whole thing was really cool.” Lionel: “Lacy, let me tell you, how beautiful you are tonight. I am loving this. Remember one thing, there is a crowd in front of you, play them. I promise it will get you a long way for the appeal with the audience.”
Alejandro Aranda singing, “White Rabbit,” by Jefferson Airplane. Judges Comments: Luke: “That really embodied the spirit of Woodstock right there. I don’t want to sound like I am not complimenting you, it was like a Pink Floyd kind of thing, and it was new from you, you had a rockstar moment.” Lionel: “The jacket is on fire. Play the microphone stand, the camera is going to play to you, make love to it.” Katy: “That was a fantastic performance, you were digging, keep feeling yourself. That was such a unique individual performance, one of your best vocal performances yet.”
Wade Cota singing, “With A Little Help From My Friends,” by Joe Cocker. Judges Comments: Lionel: “That is about as close to a sixties performance as you can get. You have more movement than Joe Crocker. It is the perfect song for you. Congratulations, you knocked it out of the park.” Katy: “That was the best performance that I have seen tonight.” Luke: “I am watching you, that performance was, there was a lady in the audience that was losing her mind. You spiritually moved everyone and I hope America felt that.”
Madison Vandenburg singing, “I Surrender,” by Celine Dion. Judges Comments: Katy: “Oh my gosh, you took a huge breath at the end of that performance. I really could see you feel and hear what you did. The more you connect the song, the more you deliver, we are locked with it.” Luke: “We’ve heard Lionel say this, we haven’t heard this part of your voice yet, but you gave us a cry in there, we could feel what you were doing.” Lionel: “Your vocals are far beyond your age, you are in another zone, you own it so much now. You did that song in a Madison style.”
Alejandro Aranda singing, ‘Poison.” Judges Comments: Luke: “I just pray that America truly understands how challenging it is to play the guitar like you just did. Your voice, this is the best you are singing.” Lionel: “I want you to understand something, watching you sing your songs is everything. It is an instant identity. Your star is already gone to the top, you will have a career for a very long time.” Katy: “First of all, that is the best you have ever sung on this show. Second, how wonderfully interesting will it be when you change American Idol by winning American Idol.”
Laci Kaye Booth singing, “Open Arms,” by Journey. Judges Comments: Lionel: “That was perfect, the delivery was fantastic. You are looking very relaxed and you are controlling those vocals to a tee.” Katy: “You must vote now, that last note had Luke and me, that was exactly what I was asking for. You are a multi-directional star.” Luke: “Katy and I are getting emotional and I got to think, it is because we are so proud that you have come so far.”
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon singing, “Somewhere,” by Barbara Streisand. Judges Comments: Katy: “You did great, you did well. There have been times that I have not to connect to the chorus, but tonight I was.” Luke: “Jeremiah, you started a little unsure, but in the end, as a performance, the way you rallied was incredible.” Lionel: “You cannot study mesmerizing, you killed it tonight.”
Wade Cota singing, “Through The Valley,” by Shawn James. Judges Comments: Luke: “It feels like a total Johnny Cash moment, you are on it, you got your voice down, everything you are selling us is so believable.” Lionel: “Let me tell you, you have sold it to us, we are believers. Please vote.” Katy: “You may be 27, but that voice is a thousand years old. You were shocked by last weeks vote. I think you finally have started to believe in yourself.”
Laine Hardy, singing, “Johnny Be Good,” by Chuck Berry. Judges Comments: Lionel: “I have one question to ask, have you been in my closet? That was to the point of fainting. That was the perfect song, the perfect attitude, I love what you are doing.” Katy: “I’m scared. It was so good.” Luke: “I have nothing left to say, good job.”
Time for results, voting is closed and two people may be leaving. In no particular order, the first person America has voted in the top 4 is Madison Vandenburg. The next person that is safe after the nationwide, coast to coast vote is Laine Hardy. After the votes, tonight, singing again for America is Alejandro Aranda. One person remains to be in the top four, it is Wade Cota.
The two remainings are Laci Kaye Booth and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon. The judges can use the save, but they are not forced to.
Katy is asked if she will use the one save tonight, she says yes. It comes down to this moment, who will the save be used on. The judges choose to save Laci Kaye Booth.
The only contestant going home tonight is Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon.
THE END!
