Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that one NBC soap star had some unfortunate news to share. Days fans know Alison Sweeney as Sami Brady in Salem. Fierce Sami always speaks up for herself and the people she cares about. Sweeney wanted to do the same after a doctor’s appointment led to some tough test results.
It turns out Sweeney had a small, suspicious bump on her nose, which she had checked out. Her dermatologist determined that it tested positive for skin cancer, so Sweeney needs to have it removed. Although it’s always scary to hear the word cancer at the doctor’s office, it’s better to know early. That’s why Sweeney wanted to tell her fans and offer some important reminders.
After Sweeney got off the phone with her dermatologist, the Days actress decided to pass along the doc’s tips. Sweeney put up a lovely, natural-looking pic on Instagram to go with her caption. She said, “Check your skin for any noticeable changes and ask your doctor about it!! Even if it seems like nothing, let an expert decide.”
That’s excellent guidance since people tend to downplay their own spots and other little red flags. You can’t be too careful, especially in the summertime if you’re out and about in the sun. It’s wise to check for unusual bumps, blotches and moles often – just in case!
“Early detection of skin cancer gives you the greatest chance for successful skin cancer treatment, and prevents it from developing into something more complicated,” Sweeney continued. “And of course – use sunscreen (which I do!!).” Sunscreen is definitely a must when it comes to skin cancer prevention. It can’t guarantee anything, but it can reduce the risks.
It’s great that Sweeney was diligent about caring for her skin and getting regular exams. It’s also nice of this DOOL star to use her platform to help others! One Days of Our Lives fan offered gratitude on Twitter, where the Instagram link was shared. “Thank you for the PSA! I don’t always remember to apply. But seeing posts like this will give me that extra push to pay attention,” she said.
