General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that someone new is headed to Port Charles, but he’ll be played by an actor familiar to soap fans. Exciting details are emerging about Michael E. Knight’s mysterious character – including his first airdate. Knight will debut in his GH role starting September 30, but there’s no word on how long he’ll stay in town.
The Young and the Restless viewers may remember Knight from his role as Dr. Simon Neville. However, he’ll always be All My Children’s Tad Martin to some. Although General Hospital brought back Nora Buchanan (Hilary B. Smith) from One Life to Live, EW offered confirmation that AMC’s Tad won’t resurface. The writers had a different part in mind for Knight, so that’s what he’ll be taking on.
Of course, General Hospital spoilers say there’s still some mystery surrounding this guy. The show likes to keep story details under wraps, so they couldn’t give too much away. Fortunately, GH Head Writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor did have some interesting clues to pass along.
Knight’s character is someone who’s “capable of all manner of shenanigans.” Van Etten added, “There are a number of people in Port Charles who are in trouble and his character will have an impact on how their stories are solved or further complicated.” It sounds like this mystery man could bring some big drama.
As for why Knight was chosen, Van Etten explained that he thought the soap vet would bring something special to the table. He also felt longtime soap viewers would appreciate the casting decision. “I knew he could bring a little zest…He’s his own special brand of zest!” Van Etten said. “I think the devotees of soap operas love seeing this callback to the rich history of ABC daytime shows.”
The writers continued to develop ideas for Knight’s character once he was selected. They expanded their original plan and have some exciting stuff in store for General Hospital watchers. Knight is wearing a suit in his first-look cast photo, so it’s possible he’ll play a lawyer.
Then again, perhaps Knight’s character could specialize in something like experimental memory recovery. He could be a doctor who’s a bit more research-oriented since he’s not wearing a lab coat. Regardless, General Hospital spoilers say PC will definitely be affected by this imminent arrival.
