Meredith was back. She was back at the hospital and was back doing the job she loves. It had been hard. Especially as she watched other people perform surgery while she sat it out and so she was happy that Bailey accepted her back. She also wasn’t alone in being happy about that. The whole hospital it seems was happy to see her back. The interns ordered a cake with a special message for her and everyone was smiling when they saw her. It was all going great until one guy had to be grumpy.
Of course, it was DeLuca. He wished he would have known they were going to work together when he asked her for space and those were the words he used. He said “space” not “break up even if they mean essentially the same thing. They were now broken up and it was going to be awkward working with each other again. It also didn’t help that Meredith wasn’t the sort to let things go. She knew she had been dumped and she would have liked it if they didn’t have to work together, but they do.
DeLuca was still an intern. He needed to go on rounds with an attendee and he followed Meredith on what she thought would be her first case. Meredith had performed surgery several years on a young Jamie and Jamie was back now with a mass in her back. It could be cancerous or it could be benign. Meredith wanted to rush some tests on the young girl and it turns out she couldn’t do that because of the new Chief of Pediatric Surgery. His name is Dr. Cormac Hayes. He wasn’t very territorial and that made things worse because so was Meredith.
Meredith and Cormac instantly butted heads. It was so laughable that DeLuca took some enjoyment from it and he was laughing while two doctors were seemingly refusing to work together. Meredith didn’t want Cormac over her shoulder. Her situation wasn’t like Maggie’s. Maggie was back at the hospital as well after her little sabbatical. She had needed the time off because her last patient and it had been someone she was close to. And so being back had made her nervous because she realized she needed another doctor in the room to stop her from making another mistake on another patient.
Her patient was a new father. Elliott’s wife at the hospital because she had just given birth and so his family couldn’t afford to lose this young man. Maggie knew this and she wanted so desperately wanted to do right by him. It’s why she asked Teddy to assist with the surgery. The tired mother of two was so happy to be in real surgery again that she didn’t push Maggie on why she was wanted in the OR and so that allowed Maggie to hide. Its what she does best. She hides when things get tough and she usually does so with her work.
Maggie’s way of dealing with things wasn’t healthy. She was in surgery and she didn’t even want to talk to Teddy because she wanted to focus solely on the surgery. She thought if she gave it her all that it would come together in end. Instead, Elliott’s heart didn’t restart. It was slow coming back and Maggie panicked. She fell apart. She didn’t want to listen to anyone and she only walked away because Teddy stepped in. Teddy saved Maggie from herself. Teddy took over and she was doing that as Maggie stormed off.
Who knows where she went next. Maggie didn’t go to her sisters. Meredith was still arguing with the new guy and Amelia was having her own scared moment. Amelia hasn’t had an ultrasound. She was almost twenty weeks ago and she’s never had an ultrasound because she was scared of what it might say. It had been Bailey that convinced her she was nuts. Bailey was pregnant herself and she didn’t want Amelia taking risks if she didn’t have to. And unfortunately, that was the last thing Bailey told Amelia when she had her own issues with her pregnancy.
Bailey lost her baby. She should have gone home afterward in order to deal with her grief and she chose to stay at the hospital. She pretended like everything was fine. She even told Amelia that she just found out the sex of the baby and so Bailey didn’t want anyone besides those that were there know. Meaning her doctor, her husband, and surprisingly Pruitt were the only ones that knew the truth. Pruitt had been a patient at the hospital when Bailey as his doctor began bleeding out in front of him.
Pruitt was, therefore, a listening ear for Ben. This was going to Ben’s first baby and now that’s gone. His wife told him to go drink if he wanted to or throw things if he wanted. Only Ben just wanted to be with his wife and she wanted to be alone. Bailey got changed at the hospital and she cried it out there. Bailey dealt with her pain silence.
Maggie however quit. She didn’t know if her patient was going to make it and so she decided to not take the risk of surgery again. She quit and her job was offered to Teddy. Teddy wasn’t sure if she earned the job or Koracick was giving it to her because he still had feelings for her. And he admitted that he would take her back instantly, meanwhile Owen and she have a baby together and he still hasn’t proposed.
Meredith also learned that Cristina was the one that sent Cormac to the hospital because he was a widow too and she thought he’d be perfect for Meredith.
Ben and Pruitt went to the bar where they got that drink and there were several at the bar as well when out of nowhere a car drove into the building.
