HTGAWM begins tonight with Nate (Billy Brown) being swapped for DNA at the FBI office. Annalise (Viola Davis) is coming there, saying he cannot answer any more questions. Two agents return, questioning him on his whereabouts on December 15th. He was at a wedding guest of Annalise. He opens his mouth about DA Ron Miller, saying he only opened the inquest to cover his ass and ordered the hit on his pops. Nate assures them he is not their suspect, the Governor is.

24 Hours earlier
Bonnie (Liza Weil) plays the recording of the phone call Ron made, Bonnie suggesting they could have been wrong. Annalise begs him to think because if he can prove that Ron did this, then he also had the motive to kill him. Nate swears he isn’t the bad guy here – he is! Annalise wants Bonnie to call in sick, but she reminds Annalise the FBI might want to question her again today. She asks Bonnie to come back when she is done as she needs her there.

Annalise calls Asher (Matt McGorry), telling him to get to the office and keep an eye on Bonnie as he is good at taking care of her. Asher thought she was calling about him not being the only one who knows. Annalise calls Michaela (Aja Naomi King), Connor (Jack Falahee) and Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) into her office, saying this is the last time they are discussing this. She tells them they can only tell the FBI that Ron was last seen at their wedding.

Tegan (Amirah Vann) talks to Michaela about the wrongful death suit; admitting he is more interested in justice than the money. Tegan tells her to get Nate on board or she will call him herself. Laurel (Karla Souza) confronts Bonnie about what her son, Christopher saw as Asher told them everything. Laurel screams at her, worried that her son might have seen it and will suffer for life because of it. Asher stops her, saying Bonnie is in pain; Laural says that is the only thing that is stopping her from killing Bonnie right now.

Nate stops to speak to the head juror about his father’s case. Nate is told his father’s DNA was on the gun; it was in the evidence packet that was brought to the jury by the bailiff. Nate informs Annalise that the jury was given fake evidence. Meanwhile, Emmett Crawford (Timothy Hutton) walks into Annalise’s office as their new clients, the Britts are on their way up. Annalise will enjoy spanking Pierce Jensen (Ron Bottitta), even if he is their boss; he doesn’t seem too pleased that Annalise is there. Nora does admit that Emmett’s relationship with her was consensual. Annalise wants to flip the script but Pierce insists they proceed as planned.

Laurel brings Christopher to C&G, looking for Gabriel (Rome Flynn). Michaela and Oliver say Christopher is going to be fine as Connor agrees with Michaela. She is going to call a sick day but Connor suggests they should prep for their FBI interview.

Gabe is brought in for questioning about the voicemail he left for Ron. He reveals that they found out who he was meant he was working an investigation with DA Miller. He doesn’t know what exactly he was investigating, only that the former DA had suspected Annalise in a bunch of criminal acts. Ron thought since Gabriel was a new student he might be unsuspecting. He admits that he didn’t know Ron was at the wedding but Nate was definitely there with Annalise.

Asher says everyone figured things out on their own as Bonnie tells him to go and inform Annalise she is fine. Bonnie says Asher was right, Ron’s call was only to see if the transfer went okay. He insists she didn’t do anything wrong, but Bonnie admits Ron was still breathing when she got there and she could have called 911, but she tells Asher it was her!

Nate meets with his contact, saying he needs a copy of those DNA results that were slipped to the jury. She says she will see what she finds and heads off.

Annalise gets on the elevator, telling Gabe they have nothing to talk about, either at work or anywhere else. Tegan calls everyone lazy as Gabe says they don’t need witnesses to win, just establish a basis for damages. Gabriel just wants to help, feeling they were tight with Nate; but everyone can’t stand Gabe.

Annalise talks with Emmett, who says money was never a thing with Nora. She reminds him that he is going to bleed himself dry if he keeps putting everyone else’s needs before his own. She reminds him of the times she got in the most trouble was when she didn’t put herself first. Nate messages her, saying he has proof.

Annalise goes home and Nate shows her how Miller messed with the test. She says even if the test is the fact there is no evidence it was Miller who slipped it to the jury and they cannot go by Nate’s gut instinct alone. She is trying to stop him from shoveling himself into his own grave, but he cannot force something to be true simply because he wants it to be. He tells her to have his back or get out. Annalise grabs her purse and leaves.

Bonnie rejects a call from Annalise, steps on the gas as she leans back on her car seat, parked in the garage. Nate breaks down as he reviews his father’s words and what his last moments were like. Nate relives beating Ron to a pulp, determined to prove he wasn’t wrong. Bonnie has her memories with Ron and how vulnerable she became with him; he calls her the bravest person he has ever met and he loves her. Suddenly, Frank (Charlie Weber) opens the door, turns off the car and carries a broken Bonnie into the house.

Nate calls Bonnie’s phone, which Frank answers and tells him to stop all the digging; not because anyone told him to but because Frank is worried, and so should Nate. Asher insists that Christopher is fine, but Bonnie is not okay because she lost the love of her life; Laurel says she lost the love of her life too. Oliver hugs Asher who is extremely worried about Bonnie. Laurel checks on the baby who is still sound asleep. Michaela says she is not crazy, but as his mom, that is her job; Laurel feels like she is being paranoid but Michaela is supportive. She is fairly positive Christopher won’t remember this because she was in the same room as her mother when she was shot, and she was 2; that is how she knows Christopher will be fine. Laurel holds her tight.

Emmett climbs into Nora’s car as she wants to admit fault tomorrow, she feels now that they are here she can’t let Emmett do this as he means more to her than this company. He wants to take the fall so he can at least say he did something good for this world. Annalise catches the two of them kissing in the car. She confronts him in the office, saying he can’t let her bust her ass for anything, and Nora is using reversed psychology. Emmett wonders if she wants to die, knowing she lived for something other than herself. Annalise tells him to go ahead and be the martyr!

Nate’s badge number is not coming up in the system and Nate finds out the evidence officer knew this whole time he wasn’t working for the DA anymore. FBI arrives as Nate says he is helping cover an old man’s murder. Nate is escorted out of the building when he is told the cuffs will only stay off for another 5 seconds.

Nate has DNA taken as Annalise advises him not to answer any other questions. He hangs up as the agents walk in. Annalise is walking to meet with Emmett and Nora, as Tegan approaches her saying it is about the wrongful death suit; Annalise tells her to stop as he is waiting to see if there will still be a criminal trial. Tegan walks away and Michaela says she spoke to Nate who isn’t ready for another fight. Tegan accuses all of them of lying and can’t believe Michaela would do this to her again.

Annalise tells Emmett he cannot be this firm’s bitch and has a way out. She plans to make Jensen take the fall, use the sword he wants Emmett to fall on, to turn it around and stab Jensen with it; Emmett smirks because he had come up with the same idea. Jensen realizes that having Annalise around is dangerous and worked her way. Nora turns on Pierce Jensen, saying he was the one who told her what to do. Jensen feels they are all mad as each is willing to turn on each other.

Outside the meeting, Emmett tells Annalise they will be sitting ducks at the firm; something she is used to. Emmett invites her out to dinner, saying Nora is his ex-girlfriend as you always need to close one door to open a new one.

Nate is accused of having mental health episodes, as mental health runs in the family. Nate wants them to bring in a psychiatrist as he is not making any of this up. Later, Nate visits Annalise and Bonnie explaining why the FBI had to let him go and he had to give DNA to prove it wasn’t his father’s DNA on the gun. Bonnie still frets over them not truly knowing Ron did this. Nate says she could still be right but she was protecting him, so whether he is wrong or right, this all started with Nate. He stresses that Bonnie did it for him and she better not think of leaving them as he couldn’t live with that.

Gabriel returns to his room, where he smashes things and begins cutting up the fake IDs that he has. There is a pounding on his door that distracts him. Frank returns home to find Bonnie is gone. Annalise goes to see everyone, telling them Bonnie is on the edge and going to hurt herself; wondering if Laurel really wants that blood on her hands. Frank continues to search the house as everyone reveals how suspicious Tegan has been. Tegan is at the office, calling the FBI agent that she has worked other immunity deals with; asking if they can meet up as they need to speak. Tegan is reading about Ron Miller on the computer as she places the call.

Nate returns to the FBI as Annalise reveals Nate has a plan that the governor killed Miller. She makes every one of them admit that they understand the plan and now they are all on the same page. The FBI confirms the blood on the gun was not his father’s and someone manufactured the evidence. She says they are not there yet, but have someone in custody who could shed light on everything. Frank calls Bonnie’s phone demanding to know where she is. Frank hears her faint voice and finds her in his bed, where she tells him she didn’t want to sleep alone. He cuddles under the blankets with her.

Annalise receives a call from the 18th precinct and has Gabriel in custody, claiming that she is his lawyer. He is hoping she will come.

THE END
