HTGAWM begins with everyone get ready for Christmas. Laurel (Karla Souza) takes a call where someone is breathing hard. She believes it was her mother, but brushes it off saying she was being paranoid. Annalise (Viola Davis) brings her mother to her apartment, who feels she is visiting some fancy hotel; praising Annalise for doing good. She says she will do all the cooking, they can watch TV and hang out. She tells Annalise she is so proud of her, as she is living her best life. Annalise receives a phone call from an Agent from the FBI. She knows Annalise was trying to adopt Wes Gibbons, saying she is working a case, but willing to offer her complete immunity. She simply needs to come in; Annalise says she will after the holiday.

Frank (Charlie Weber) visits Gabriel (Rome Flynn), wanting to make amends. Gabe lets him in as Frank says Annalise hates him for not telling her earlier. Gabe reveals he didn’t go home because his mother would have a million questions and any of the truth would put her on a pill binge. Frank agrees that Gabe and his mother deserved better than Sam.

Bonnie 9Liza Weil) and Asher (Matt McGorry) attend Ron’s funeral; his mother gives a eulogy, saying Ronnie is now with his father whom she is sure was very glad to see him. Bonnie and Asher talk with his mother after, Asher leaving so they can speak. She wants to know how Bonnie knew the governor was involved before the police told her. She pressures Bonnie into finding the people who did this and make sure they get the death penalty so she can watch them die.

The news talks about Ron’s murder, which Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) and Michaela (Aja Naomi King) are watching until Laurel turns it off; telling them they don’t need to hear any more about murder. Connor (Jack Falahee) reveals his mother is on her way, and no more Asher comments as his mother need to be ashamed for it. He hopes she won’t notice they are all terrified about going to jail, making Oliver scoff saying she had no idea his dad was gay for over 20 years.

Nate (Billy Brown) comes to Annalise’s place, where her mother immediately asks him about how his father is doing. Nate plays along, saying his dad is under the weather and hopefully she can see him next time. Annalise brings her mother to bed, apologizing to Nate. She tells Nate that bringing her mother there was selfish, in order to prevent her from drinking over the holidays. She informs him the agent wants to talk to her, offering her immunity. She is shocked he wants her to sell him out and put him in jail. He believes he can take care of himself and she should take the deal while it is in front of her.

Annalise climbs into bed, as her mother says she heard the conversation; wanting to know what kind of deal she is thinking of taking. She confronts her, saying she better not dare hurt Nate as he is a good man! Annalise says he isn’t as good as she thinks and tells her to go to sleep as tomorrow is a big day!

Baby Christopher sits on Oliver’s lap, while he is dressed as Santa. Michaela steals Connor’s mom phone and he deletes the photos from Instagram of her and Asher. Frank arrives telling Michaela and Laurel that Gabe is coming for dinner. He wants to know if Laurel gets another phone call like that, saying it is Christmas and they can all afford to have one nice day a year.

The FBI Agent stops Tegan (Amirah Vann), saying she is the one person who can find out what Annalise knows. She wants her to go to the dinner and find out, telling Tegan to call her.

Frank comes to Annalise’s place, saying Gabe will be at the other house all day. She rushes off to help her mother in the kitchen. Frank tells Nate what he did was pure genius, which upsets Bonnie. He tells Frank about the offer of immunity for Annalise; he agrees that she should take it. Annalise stops Bonnie in the hallway, saying she should have never gone to the funeral. Their chat is interrupted when Tegan and Emmett (Timothy Hutton) walk in. Bonnie questions if they can trust Tegan, but Annalise doesn’t think she can trust anyone at this point.

Asher is told to change his shirt but is disappointed that she didn’t have a shirt for Gabe too. Laurel tells Gabe that Frank made them invite him, but he should not flirt with Michaela. Emmett toasts her for the dinner and for how grateful he is for being there today. Annalise’s mama thinks Emmett is her new boyfriend, but she corrects her. She begins telling stories about Annalise when she was a child and her mother was being accused of neglecting her child when she had no lunches for school. Annalise gave her lunch away to a homeless man, reminding her that she will always be her generous child whether she likes it or not.

Annalise listens to her mother making a call, Nate tells Annalise that he thinks her mother overheard their conversation and wants her to help him. Annalise says that isn’t the whole story. Tegan offers her condolences to Bonnie, saying she knew she was together with Ron from friends at the DA office; Bonnie excuses herself saying she doesn’t feel well.

Oliver encourages Connor’s mother to eat, but she isn’t shy in revealing to Gabe that she had an “encounter” with Asher, which wasn’t one of her finer moments; but they are all adults who have needs. Asher is embarrassed but insists none of them realize what they sacrifice for their children. She wants to know why none of them are calling their parents and choosing not to spend the holidays with them. A knock at the door brings the FBI with a warrant for their wedding photos.

Annalise finds Emmett cleaning up the leftovers. They joke about how he is in a suite, as he says that Annalise has friends and a great mother, who admire her. She is surprised that he said, “We!” He loves that she made him feel like he was at home, somewhere he hasn’t felt like in a long time, It looks like they are about to kiss but something stops them. Annalise says it is late and he agrees to go.

Everyone stands around as the agents search the photos. Laurel goes to Christopher’s room, where she covers him in the blanket that has blood on it. Connor’s mom wants to know why he never said the DA was at the wedding and now she deleted a photo. Asher jumps in saying the FBI is doing their job, he knew the guy and Connor didn’t want her wedding to be ruined.

Michaela gives Gabe some wine, telling him to take the peace offering. She says she barely knew Sam, and there is nothing she could tell him. She questions him about wanting to find his birth parents, but he says he did something and got over his abandonment issues. She takes her wine back. Downstairs, the agents take Oliver’s office which upsets Laurel. She suggests that her father probably committed the murder. The agent leaves, saying she will be back.

Frank tells Bonnie that the FEDS took Ollie’s laptop, but she doesn’t respond. Frank admits he should have gone with her to the funeral as Bonnie reveals she is a week late and has been feeling dizzy and nauseous. She cries that she can’t do this when he asks if she took a pregnancy test. He promises that she has him, no matter what happens; holding her tight.

Annalise listens as Ollie is certain they can’t get through his firewalls. No one feels safe, Laurel thinking she should talk to the agent; but Annalise confesses she has been called in for an interview, asking Bonnie if she is okay. Frank tells Annalise that he knows about the immunity, but hasn’t told Bonnie.

Nate sits with Annalise’s mother, who gives him a present that is from his father. She gives him letters that she was exchanging with his father before he passed. Annalise comes in, wanting to know what is wrong. She tells Annalise that she would be fine if she married Nate, as they would have spousal privilege. She quiets down, saying it really is none of her business.

Connor and Oliver stand before Connor’s mother, who calls Oliver a terrible liar. She wants the truth from Connor, who says she cannot tell dad. He says this all involves the governor, who has been coming after Annalise, all because they won the Supreme Court case and they are using the FBI to shut down their cases. He reminds her that she taught him to live a life where he lives a life that is bigger than himself. She hates all of this but she is proud of him.

Annalise asks her mother to stay, but she says her daddy wouldn’t like that. Annalise insists if she is happy, then she is happy for her mother, despite her reuniting with her father. Annalise worries about other people, wondering if her mother still wants her to be the little girl who would go hungry so others can eat. Annalise admits that Sam has a son named Gabriel; every man she has loved has hurt her and she can’t let anyone else in. She doesn’t want to be left alone, trying to save everyone else if it kills her. She wants to know about herself.

She tells Annalise that loving her father is for her, not him. She knows what it is like to love a child, but Annalise has to take what she got and all she has right now is Nate. Annalise wants to know what about her loving herself; doesn’t that count for anything. She says it doesn’t count if she’s hurting other people. She holds Annalise at the edge of the bed.

Annalise is finally alone and takes an alcoholic drink. She calls the agent, saying she will meet her tomorrow at 3 pm and she can prepare the immunity paperwork. Tegan is shocked that they are offering Annalise immunity; she says she is unless Tegan can give her something to prove she doesn’t deserve it.

Annalise arrives at the agency, as Gabe gets a call from his mother. They talk about the present he bought her and how he spent the day with Michaela. Annalise sits in the room, noticing it is 3:14. Bonnie takes out the pregnancy test while Nate begins to read the letters his father wrote to Ophelia, Annalise’s mother. Frank learns from Bonnie that she isn’t pregnant and sits with her on the stairs, comforting her. Laurel watches over Christopher, taking her phone and calling the FBI, leaving a message asking for her to call Laurel back.

Annalise puts her phone away and is ready to walk out. Tegan meets with another agent, saying she is there about the lead agent on the case. Tegan reveals their conversation, saying the agent promises to protect her. She tells Tegan everything she knows about her – pathetic and single. She admits she is pathetic and single too. Both laughs at the conversation as Tegan holds her hand, bringing her in for a kiss. They continue to kiss. Tegan says she didn’t feel coerced in any way as she and Claire are both aware they crossed the line, but her personal safety is at risk and she needs to be assigned to a new agent.

Claire is presented with all the illegal activities she has done, especially sleeping with a potential witness. He reminds her that all the evidence is pointing at Governor Burkhead, but Claire insists Annalise is playing them. He knows no one has worked harder on this case than her, but he is removing her off the case until further notice.

Annalise is told they need to reschedule her, but can’t explain why. Annalise meets with Tegan, who says she only bought her time until the new agent catches up. Annalise doesn’t know what to say, but Tegan takes that as a compliment and leaves. Annalise smiles but her phone rings from a private number. She quickly goes to the church to meet with the governor, saying she came there against her better judgment. Burkhead insists none of this was her and says she knows who killed Nate Sr. but she knows him too. She hands Annalise a file, saying it was Emmett Crawford. Annalise is completely horrified.

THE END!
