The killer left behind a gift. It was meant for Detective Ryan Stock and it wasn’t pretty. The killer left him some bloodied sheets. He had also taken the time break into Ryan’s apartment to leave those sheets and that in itself was a sign. The killer took a risk to do what he did. It must have been important to him and it could even be important to the NYPD. It could either mean he’s killed again or it could also mean he chose Ryan as his next target. No one could figure that part out, but Dylan did do a profile. He believes the Sleeping Beauty killer had killed his first victim by accident back in Omaha. He then went out to a bar in NYC and ran into a woman that was also from Omaha. Which lead to him killing her because he thought she could have recognized him. And so the killer didn’t really take a liking to the deaths until he killed the bartender.

The killer had taken his own sheets when he killed the bartender. If he had been panicking as he did before, then he would have been in too much of a rush to stage the scene as he did and he wouldn’t have brought his own sheets. He had left himself exposed with those sheets. The order was traced back to a company and the police found out that the killer had purchased quite a few of those damned sheets. It was why this concerned Dylan. He said they were watching the birth of a serial killer and that this case was far from over. Dylan would have liked to focus more on what’s happening, but frankly, he was juggling too much. He was in the middle of adoption and he was writing a book when he wasn’t helping Lizzie solve crimes.

There was also a new case that came up. There was a body found on an art installation and both Dylan and Lizzie believe that the artist might have seen something or might have been involved in the murder. The artist was known as Ace. Ace did a bunch of installations around the city about poverty and defiance of the one percent. He was also notoriously private. No one knew his real name and he was paid by art galleries through bitcoin. Ace was going to be a killer to find. Therefore, Lizzie and Dylan looked into the victim. Gustavo was a hedge fund guy and it seems he had his own secrets. The two went to his apartment to see what they could find and they found a hidden compartment. It turns out Gustavo was Ace.

The man they suspected as their killer had turned out to be their victim. Gustavo had created secret funds in which he was paid and his travel for work helped him to create an artwork all around the world. Gustavo had been really good at covering his track. His killer, however, must have figured out his secret. They also needed the motive to kill him and it was either a rival or the woman he’s been writing love letters to. The woman identified herself as Syl. She didn’t reveal anything else about herself and so they focused on any possible rivalry. Ace was a great rival of a guy named Dexter Davies. They had a twitter feud and everything. Ace would call him a tasteless hack and Dexter would call Ace’s work crap.

Only it was a part of their publicity. There wasn’t a real feud and Dexter said that everything had been arranged through a friend. He wouldn’t reveal any more and that was okay because the two were focused on the latest body that dropped. That time a young woman had been killed on an art installation. Syl had been stabbed fourteen times and she was left with an art installation that detailed “love is blind”. The gallery owner had called this latest artwork convoluted. The installation itself had been a poor imitation of Ace’s artwork and so whoever the killer was, he was also desperate enough to demand attention. He was also setting himself up as a rival for Ace. And that could explain why they killed Syl.

Dylan and Lizzie had investigated Syl and she was more than just Gustavo’s girlfriend. She was also a painter. She had sketches at her apartment and it proved that she was actually working with Gustavo to create Ace. They were both the street artist. They were also working considering coming out as themselves. It was this that led to their deaths. Gustavo and Syl were a part of the “Ace” persona, but it wasn’t just the two of them. There was a third partner and he didn’t want to come out. He liked the anonymity. It made him feel stronger than he was and so that’s why he killed his partners. He thought that if he killed them that he could go on as Ace by himself. And as Dylan and Lizzie were learning, the third partner was nothing without Gustavo and Syl.

The third partner was named Paul Wexford. Paul worked at the art gallery and that’s how he gained access long enough to stage Syl’s body there. Paul probably thought that the artwork could be his coming out and it just proved he was a poor artist. Paul was so desperate to be seen as the legend that he was also going to keep killing to add to his artwork, but the Lizzie and Dylan got to him first. They convinced him to come hand himself over by telling him they wouldn’t reveal his secret identity as Ace. And then the two gave Fucci the chance to arrest Paul because Fucci has been wanting to arrest the street artist since he was a beat cop.

But Dylan soon realized he was juggling too many hats. He told his new editor that he didn’t have time to work on a book and the guy ignored him. He said that he was willing to wait for the next bestseller from Dylan and so that bought him time. Dylan can now focus on his teaching, the adoption, and his work with Lizzie. Lizzie, on the other hand, needed a friend rather than a partner. She broke up with Julian and it had been hard on her. She had really come to care for him, but she couldn’t deal with the secrecy and so now they’re over.

Dylan tried to be there for Lizzie, but the Sleeping Beauty killer had called into a podcast and he revealed himself to the world.

THE END!
