The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) will gear up for a big fight. As Y&R viewers know, he was recently informed that an unknown person is possibly contesting Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) will. Of course, since Katherine left the bulk of her fortune to Devon, having someone contest the will would be potentially life-altering for him if that person were to ultimately win.
Recently, Devon sat down with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) and ran down a list of people who could possibly be challenging Katherine’s will. It has to be a family member of Katherine’s and they determined that the most likely person it could be is Chance Chancellor (John Driscoll). Chance told Jill recently by text that he was working on a potentially “lucrative” deal.
Of course, Y&R viewers haven’t seen Chance on screen for some time, but his name has certainly come up in connection with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) in recent weeks. Back when Adam had amnesia and was on the poker circuit as “Spider” in Las Vegas, he was allegedly hanging out with Chance. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) found out about the connection at one point and confronted Adam about it, and he acted coy.
And now that Chance’s name has come up in connection with the challenge against Katherine’s will, that makes us wonder whether Chance and Adam have some plot cooked up to get their hands on Devon’s fortune. It’s unclear at this point exactly what Adam’s motive would be for wanting to get Devon’s money, although he did lose most of the Dark Horse assets when Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Phyllis gave most of the Dark Horse’s properties to Nick.
Still, Adam doesn’t seem like he’s hurting for money, so if he and Chance are in cahoots together, then it is probably due to Chance’s desire to get his hands on Katherine’s money rather than Adam’s desire to do so. Remember, we still don’t know what the connection between Adam and Chance was in Las Vegas – it’s possible that Chance did something for Adam previously, and now Adam is helping Chance with his legal pursuit against Devon in return.
At any rate, it seems like there are a lot of unanswered questions and loose ends here that The Young and the Restless needs to clean up for viewers. Given that Adam and Chance were connected in Las Vegas, it seems reasonable to assume they may be working together in some fashion to get the money that Katherine left to Devon, but the prospect of Chance actually getting his hands on that money seems pretty thin.
After all, Chance would be going against the entire family’s wishes in the matter, and he’d have to prove that Katherine was either coerced or wasn’t in her right mind when she made decisions regarding Devon getting her fortune. Since neither of those things are true and can’t readily be proved, it just doesn’t seem like Chance would have a good case – that is, unless Adam plans to bribe or blackmail the judge in the way he planned to do with the judge in Christian Newman’s (Alex Wilson) custody case, and that could certainly happen.
